Tuesday Treats #190

Luciano’s Ristorante Italiano

Location: Lawrenceville, GA

*Oops! My apologies for the delayed post!*

We visited this restaurant quite a while ago, and honestly, we weren’t highly impressed on the first run, but this return visit is proof that, sometimes, you have to try a place twice to be sure it’s not a place you will actually enjoy. This time around, it was quite amazing! I gave a review then, and you can read about it here.

The only drawback I can see is the seating in the house. There are no booths, all tables and chairs. It’s very much a fancy cafe style setting (white tablecloths), and if you like that, then you’ll have no hesitation. My husband, son and I prefer a bit more cozy settings, but we did get a table in the corner, against the wall, and it was perfect.

Once seated, we were greeted by an incredibly friendly server, and we ordered a Caesar salad, lasagna and two small pizzas, one with only pepperoni, and the other with pepperoni, mushrooms and peppers (they do yellow peppers here instead of the common green). Everything was absolutely delicious. One interesting thing this restaurant does is if you ask for crushed red pepper, they bring you a huge bowl of it! (See pic) I wondered if it was “fresh,” because of how it was served, but I forgot to ask. It provides just the perfect kick for our pizzas, and our youngest enjoyed the fresh Parmesan they brought him as well. The pizzas are cooked in a wood fire oven; so, they have that delicious brick oven flavor. The Italian bread and dipping sauce, marinara and spices, is incredible. The lasagna is savory, meaty, cheesy and scrumptious.

I will have to say, the desserts were the “icing on the cake,” no pun intended. I had a cappuccino, and we ordered the zeppole for everyone to enjoy. Oh. My. What a delight! These ricotta cheese filled Italian doughnuts with Nutella were phenomenal. We definitely made ourselves overstuffed with those. The cappuccino was yummy served with a crunchy and very tasteful (cookie) biscuit.

I’m so glad we were in the area, in the mood for Italian and decided to give this restaurant another shot. We will definitely be back!

Tuesday’s Treats #130

Boll Weevil Cafe & Sweetery

Location: Riverwalk – Augusta, Ga

This place is amazing, and what they do well, they choose to do amazingly well. It is definitely a cafe, sandwich style; so, please don’t come here searching the local burger and fry joint. There’s plenty of these in the surrounding areas; however, if you want an incredible sandwich, or even, a delicious dish of shrimp and grits, this is the place to go grab lunch!

Try the Curious George, The Jerk or even the Grown Up Grilled Cheese for a great and yummy choice of sandwiches. Don’t forget the delicious soups they have to start: corn chowder, tomato apple or turkey and rice, but be sure to save room for the incredible desserts to finish off the meal!

You can go by the display case or just look over the menu they bring, but I bet your ability to choose might be a tad bit difficult. Death by Chocolate, Strawberry and Red Velvet are just a few of the cake choices. Turtle Crunch, Cookies N’ Cream, and Blueberries and Cream Cheesecakes are each absolutely AMAZING, and there’s also Tiramisu and Key Lime Pie! Needless to say, the choices are just about endless, and I haven’t had a dessert here I didn’t like! Oh! I almost forgot. Be sure to order a cup of coffee, and you’ll be delighted with a little side cup of chocolate sauce and whip cream to make your own mocha, too!

Check out their menu and location here, and after lunch or dinner, take a stroll along the Riverwalk, and you won’t feel so guilty eating all this yumminess!

Tuesday’s Treats #126

Dutch Kitchen

Location: Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, Netherlands

This place is in the middle of the airport, and has plenty of seating to spread out and chill for a bit. We did not eat a meal; so, I cannot speak to that. However, we stopped here on 2 different layovers, and the staff is very friendly, even when they don’t speak your language well, and the coffee and desserts are amazing!

You have to get the Dutch Delight coffee! You will send me a Christmas card! Lol! It is so delicious!! If coffee isn’t your thing, they milk, tea, juice and plenty more to choose. There are several desserts from which to choose, and we love this little cookie with an almond on top. To be honest, I don’t know what kind it is, but it’s scrumptious!! We have also had an apple tart, a stroopwaffle and their “pancakes” and syrup. The pancakes are more like crepes, and they are tasty. The syrup they put on top is almost like sorghum, and it is delicious!

If you have a little time in your layover, be sure to stop by. There are comfy chairs to sit, cute teacup tables and even a big “teapot table” table with a tv for Kids. The restrooms are nearby, and if you’re a smoker, the smoke room is right next to it. There is also a little “Dutch market” around the corner if you need to pick up some chocolates or other goodies before your flight. Happy eating, and Happy flying! 😊

Hey don’t have a website that I can find, but here is the foursquare connection.

Tuesday’s Treats #121

Lviv Handmade Chocolate

Location: various locations Ukraine

The above pics are from the location in Rivne. It is a pretty small cafe, and there’s not as many “shelf” selections as others I have been in, but it’s very cute, and the menu items are more than some of the other locations.

The cafe in Lviv is the absolute coolest place!! When we walked in, it appeared to be a tiny cafe, but we went up the stairs and kept going, and kept going, and kept going! We went up five stories! We ended up in, what I would describe as the attic. It was amazing!!

They even have a Kids Center on the fourth floor where your kids can play while you drink your coffee, and the restrooms with a changing table are right there, too.

Don’t try to go out the Exit! It will beep at you!! …at least, that’s what a friend of mine said. Lol! 😂

Ok, now that I’ve given you a ton of pictures and described to you the amazing place, let me tell you about the amazing drinks and chocolates you can get.

My personal favorite is the white chocolate latte. It is so delicious! A friend of mine got the milk chocolate latte, and several friends have gotten the melted chocolate cup with fruit (See the picture above with bananas in chocolate). This seems to be a real popular choice among Ukrainians. Another drink that I’ve tasted, but have yet to order for myself (because I’m always getting coffee!), is the ginger tea (See pic). This drink is made with ginger, cinnamon, orange slices, lemon slices, and mint, and it’s served with a little bowl of honey. This drink is amazing. It has an actual healing quality to it, which makes perfect sense if you were to read any article on natural healing remedies. They always include cinnamon, lemon, honey and orange.

They have a plethora of other drink options, and that doesn’t even begin to skim the surface of the chocolate varieties. There’s decorative chocolatier items like lollipops and teddy bears, solid blocks of chocolate, truffles, chocolate with marzipan, nuts, fruits, and all kinds from which to choose. Some of our favorites are the white chocolate coconut, the dark chocolate solids, the white chocolate with pistachio nuts, the chocolate square with a coffee bean on top (tastes like hazelnut chocolate inside), and the white veil, which is chocolate dipped in white chocolate.

They also have different Lviv coffees for sale, as well as, a ton of gifts and novelties. The assortment can almost be mind-boggling but all together wonderful to behold! If you find one of these cafes, be sure to drop by and have a cup of “kaba,” and if you’ve already been to one, don’t think you can just skip another. Each one is unique with it’s own character and design. Each one is worth the time to stop.

Here is their website to find all the locations and various items.

Tuesday’s Treats #107

Midway Cafe

Location: Islamorada Key, Florida

Midway is a great little Coffeeshop located midway between Miami and Key West.

Tuesday’s Treats #103

Cafe Intermezzo

Location: Atlanta, Ga

This place is so cool! The atmosphere is different than the Coffeeshop I visited a few weeks back. It’s more of a “cafe” venue, but that definitely doesn’t take away from the enjoyable surroundings.

The desserts are amazing, and the coffee is so strong, it might get up and walk out on you 😂, but everything is delicious! They have a plethora of desserts from which to choose, and they have actual meals to order, as well, but we’ve only had coffee and desserts.

We ordered the apple pie and cherry pie ala mode. I had the Coccoloccino with white chocolate added. Oh. My. Word. Delicious!! The others in our party had the s’mores cheesecake, black coffee, and another non-alcoholic coffee, but I don’t remember the name, and I can’t find the coffee menu on the website. (Yes, they have a food menu and a coffee/beverage menu that’s like a book!)

The noise of the place was surprising a good him at about 10:30 pm on a Wednesday night, but it wasn’t overpowering. It was a comfortable atmosphere for our party of 7 to chat and fellowship for a while.

The special things around the cafe are what is so intriguing. They add special touches within each room to give it character. Like right near the bar area, just in the wall, three or four gold racks had been placed and a few newspapers were hanging. Coming from the restrooms, there were two huge mirrors placed on either side of the wall; so, when you stood there, it was as if your person went on forever. My son called it the infinity mirrors. Near the end of this post, I will post a pic that I rarely ever do for restaurants. I will post you a picture of the bathroom! They were so cool! They have the old fashioned, wood grain, Barclay Victorian style toilets. It looks like it’s right out of the scene in Godfather II. The ceilings had copper tile, and the time and attention they put into ever detail shows.

They have several locations within the Atlanta area. We had been to the Peachtree Street location many years ago and loved it. This might, we were at the Ashford-Dunwoody Road location. For more information, check out their website here.

Tuesday’s Treats #95

Palmer’s
Location: Peachtree City, Ga.

Location is really cool. Atmosphere and staff is great. Food is amazing. The brisket sandwich, coupled with the sweet potato fries and street corn is off the chain! The sweet tea is truly Southern, and the key lime pie with sour cherries is simply amazing.

Now look, after our recent trip to The Keys, I might have become a bit of a KLP (Key Lime Pie) snob and really have a narrow preference on the “best” key lime pie, but anyone who starts taste testing them, especially in The Keys, will inevitably develop this type of persnicketiness. Lol. 😂<
owever, if you drop by Palmer's, you've got to have this on your "must taste" list. I'm not even a great big fan of cherries, but this thing is delicious! If it was served alone, I'm pretty certain the key lime would really be sweeter than I'd like; however, it's a perfect pairing with the sour cherries, which are almost candied in texture but have a distinct soured cherry taste. All this with the traditional graham cracker crust is a perfect match, and the taste combination is absolutely amazing.<
eck out their website here to find location and menu items and make plans to visit soon for lunch or dinner.

Tuesday’s Treats #94

The Pilot House Restaurant

Location: Key Largo, Fl

We found this restaurant as we were leaving Key Largo on our last day of vacation, and we were so glad we did! It was amazing. The view was perfect. It was cool to watch the boats come in and out of the marina, and the atmosphere was very cool. The wait staff were very hospitable and kind, and the food was amazing. We decided it was one of the best meals we had all week, and we put it on our “return list” for the next time we came.
