Storm Wisdom

Found this quote today, and I thought I'd share it. With the storms that have brewed and blown through in the states southwest of us, this just seemed appropriately placed. I hope you will be encouraged…

Knowing what to do when the storms of life blow in is essential to our survival. The storms are inevitable, and if you simply remain unprepared, believing they will never affect you, you will find yourself sadly disappointed and, possibly, even drowning in the floodwaters of the aftermath.

Lessons for the storm…
Sometimes, when the winds blow in and the rains threaten to overpower us, we have to simply adjust our sails and head a different way. Other times, heading straight into the storm will give us enough gust through the sails to carry us beyond the storm before it bellows in force. Sometimes, we may need to lower the sails, batten down the hatches and make a "bee line" for the shore. However, there are those few, rare occasions, we will even need to hold on tight and wait out the storm, because the safety of land is just too far to reach, and the storm has a lot of bravado but no real depth or harm. It blows in with a furry yet stops just short of any real threat.

If we are to survive through life's storms, we must develop the art of perseverance and a deep gratitude for the vessel in which we sail. When we have these two attributes as the foundation upon which we stand, we can face any storm that may come, because gratitude will always bring you to the wisdom of who you are and who you are not, and it will give you the ability to ask for help from the right people at the right time. Perseverance will give you the ability to withstand the battering of the winds and waves while still learning the skill it takes to get the boat to where it needs to be when it needs to get there.

Lastly, we need to know the Master of the winds and the waves. With Him by our side, we will not drown, no matter the depth of the sea, the force of the wind or the terror of the rains. He will guide us. He will comfort us, and He will protect us. He may not always remove us from the storm, but His hand will always be with us through the storm.

This place has a great atmosphere, great staff and incredible food. If you’re in the D.C. area, it’s definitely a go-to. There’s lots of seating options, as they have a bar area, restaurant and upstairs area with live music.

The grilled cheese is AMAZING. Don’t be fooled. This is not your normal kids grilled cheese. The burgers are good as the other dishes. My apologies for not having the actual names of the plates. I couldn’t pull up the complete menu on the website, but you’ll just have to trust me that hey have a lot of great choices!

I have a great friend who gave me this acronym last year, and it has helped me beyond measure.

She said she learned it in a competitive retail marketing field, where her skill and talent were essential to get the job done, but often, her success or failure was dependent on this phrase alone. She simply amazes me by the efficient, fast, and determined ability she has to live by this “rule.”
I am trying to master this, but WOW! is it difficult sometimes! I can pile up obligations, responsibilities and expectations so fast, it might make your head spin! Then, if you’ll allow me to pile my desires and “blue sky” dreaming on top, we may never reach the answer of “What’s Important Now?” Yet, if we can become disciples with this one thought and answer, we might amaze even ourselves as to what we can accomplish!
Everything can be good, but is everything best? THAT is an excellent self analysis! 😉

Power of Reflected Light

The lighthouse has such a powerful light which shines across the sea; however, it’s actually not because of a particularly bright light bulb. Rather, it is because of the mirrors in place which cause the reflected light to shine brightly into darkness.

Just as a lighthouse is not bright simply because of a powerful light, a person cannot truly be strong simply because of his or her own strength, and a church cannot be strong simply because of a good program, a popular song service or even a great man behind the pulpit. When founded in Christ, the only true strength is when we reflect the praise we receive upon those with whom we are joined to minist, and reach those who are lost.

A parent values their child most when that child has been lost to him for a time.

A wife truly cherishes her covenant when she sees him marry the other woman.

A husband really esteems his wife after she has escaped death.

A child treasures a friend when he thought all was forgotten.

We get comfortable in routine.

We grow complacent in the mundane.

We grow ungrateful in the familiar.

Bullfrogs has a great atmosphere, a good staff and delicious food. The menu is a bar and grill type, and there’s lots to choose. I personally love the nachos appetizer and the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The desserts are yummy, too. Check them out on the web, and if you’re coming from out of town, go ahead and book yourself a room at the lodge and enjoy the pool, amenities and even Lake Lanier Islands. It’s a fun place to explore. 😊

Never Again

Tuesday’s Treats #81

The Oceanaire Seafood Room

This place is all about atmosphere AND delicious seafood. We had been site seeing all day in DC when a friend recommended this restaurant to us. We were famished and almost back to our hotel; so, we decided to give it a try. Upon entering, the manager was on the phone and made us wait for a minute; then, he tried to be a little pretentious, asking if we had reservations and telling our oldest to remove his hat. We just brushed past his behavior, removed the hat and allowed the hostess to seat us. The waitress was more than accommodating, and we quickly realized that what we thought to be true was: expensive restaurant, pretentious manager, great staff and incredibly good food.

We ordered the 16 oz NY strip, blackened halibut, a Caesar salad, truffle whipped potatoes, hashbrowns a’la Oceanaire, and a kid’s cheeseburger with fries. Oh. My. Goodness! Everything was absolutely amazing!! This meal would be ranked in the top ten of our all time favorites. Because the sides and the steak were in such large proportions, we actually split this meal between three people (2 adults and a teen son), and even our youngest son enjoyed some steak, too. Now, I do realize it was shareable, because we had two starches as well, which are very filling; however, it was a large size meal.


As if the meal wasn’t enough, we decided to get dessert, too. The cheesecake was out of this world with a raspberry sauce and berries on top. The “warm cookies and milk” are a definite winner, and the key lime pie was good but maybe not one of my favorites. However, my husband and I both might very well be considered kind of a “key lime pie snob.” The crust was yummy, but there wasn’t enough of it. The whip cream on top was amazing, and it was definitely homemade, but the pie itself was just a little too light and fluffy for my liking.

One of the things I love about their menu is the “simply prepared” items, of which the halibut was one. These items are listed alone with no sides, and you get to decide the side, as well as, the way you’d like it prepared. They do have chef specialties and other items from which to choose. Oh, they also bring out a little tray of fresh veggies to begin (carrots, cucumbers, pickle and radishes) and fresh baked bread and butter. A great way to start off a wonderful meal!

I didn’t realize until going to the website they have so many locations. We will definitely be looking them up when we are in different states, too!
