How Many Roses Do You Count?

The old adage says, “Stop and smell the roses.”

And I like to add, “Stop and smell and then, count the roses.”

When you stop and encounter the beauty, it causes you to pause and reflect.

Yet, when you stop, encounter, and inhale, you not only pause and reflect, but it causes you to also embrace the reflection.

So, I wonder how many roses do we actually stop to count?

Take a minute to pause today. Or take a few more.

Smell the fragrance.

Reflect on the beauty.

And then, look around you and embrace all of its majesty.

So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Power of Reflected Light

image

The lighthouse has such a powerful light which shines across the sea; however, it’s actually not because of a particularly bright light bulb. Rather, it is because of the mirrors in place which cause the reflected light to shine brightly into darkness.

Just as a lighthouse is not bright simply because of a powerful light, a person cannot truly be strong simply because of his or her own strength, and a church cannot be strong simply because of a good program, a popular song service or even a great man behind the pulpit. When founded in Christ, the only true strength is when we reflect the praise we receive upon those with whom we are joined to minist, and reach those who are lost.

When the church body, the leadership, and the pastor are constantly reflecting upon each other all the light that is brought upon them, and especially when they are reflecting that light upon Jesus, the strength of that is enforced and brightened beyond imagination. We, as Christians, have too often, gotten into competitive relays with each other, always trying to better ourselves for the sake of gaining numbers, or taking them from another body of believers, rather than, bettering ourselves for the sake of our Christian walk and lifting Him up so that He might draw them to Himself. We’ve worked too hard to soak up the spotlight which has been show upon us rather than reflected that light upon those around us and upon Christ. Let us each learn a lesson from the beautiful lighthouse!

The power of reflected praise: Any praise you get should be reflected onto someone else! The church grows stronger by the power of reflected light!

The reflection

What is in a reflection?

A face

A memory

A smile

A tear

All the changes through the years.

The light is changing.

The light is bright.

Let your life shine tonight.

In the Image of You

IMG_3274.JPG

Staring at the reflection in the glass, I wonder what is to become of me.

A wretched, lost and weary soul is all that I can possibly see.

Oh, how desperately I desire to be made brand new.

How could I have ever been formed in the image of You?

You are so majestic, so serene and so Mighty.

I am so lost without You and can take things too lightly.

You are so faithful, so patient and so kind.

I am so self-consumed, thinking only of my time.

Looking into the glass so darkly, all I can see is muck and mire.

A moment of peace in a life half-spent is all I can possibly desire.

Oh, how desperately I need to be rescued.

How could I have ever been formed in the image of You?

You are so divine, so magnificent and so eternal.

I am so lost without you and can make things too comfortable.

You are so loving, so merciful and so just.

I am so unfaithful, thinking only of my lust.

Gazing at the shattered glass, all I can see is fragments and pieces.

A ray of hope in a broken heart is all I can possibly seize.

Oh, how desperately I long for You to be all that’s true.

How could I have been formed in the image of You?

You are so amazing, so incredible and so awesome.

I am so lost without You and can make things, oh, so dumb.

You are so forgiving, so compassionate and so Sovereign.

I am now so blood-washed, thinking only of my pardon.
