Friday Fun Day

It’s hard to believe that this time next week, I’ll be writing the first Friday Fun Day of 2020.

Time to assess, evaluate, process and plan.

What have you done in 2019 that has been fun?

What is one thing you wish you could go back and change?

What is one thing you are thankful for?

What is one improvement you’d like to make in 2020?

Your lists may be long, or they may be short, but it’s good to look at your year and take account of the good, the bad and the ugly. It doesn’t mean you can go back and change it.

However, if we keep doing the things we’ve always done, expecting a different results, we are not wise. I believe Albert Einstein actually said it amounts to INSANITY.

If we expect to see change, we must like a flower bush be pruned, watered and fertilized, and in the spring, growth will appear as a tiny bud. It may seem tiny, but over time, the beautiful fragrance will convince you of the change.

Happy Friday Fun Day! Go have some fun!

Let 2019 go out with a bang and welcome 2020 like a beautiful, sweet fragranced rain.

Sometimes, My Heart Just Grieves

I’ve had several conversations over the past few week with friends who are going through incredibly tough seasons of life, and, as I think back through them all, my heart just feels heavy tonight. Many days, these conversations cause me to seek good, practical advice, Godly wisdom and a lot of scripture to encourage, admonish and uplift their weary hearts. Often, these stories told cause my spirit to rise up in righteous indignation over injustices done. I encourage them to fight, to never give up, to seek God, as well as, to seek their personal well being at all cost.

Yet, sometimes, like this evening, my heart just grieves over their losses and their pain. I wish I had a magical wand that could, somehow, make all the heartache, fear, doubt and turmoil just disappear. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

If you’ve not experienced sorrow yet in your life, well, just keep on living, because it will come. If I can give you a piece of advice, both for those going through the trial and for those who are listening to the story, find someone to lean on. Don’t ever try to carry your burdens (or theirs) alone. You aren’t meant to.

Especially, for those of us who call ourselves a Christian. God never set up the Body of Christ for you to walk through this life experiencing all the brokenness it can bring and travel that painful journey alone. Find yourself a good church family, a wise pastor, spiritual leaders, and pour your heart out. Let them pray for you. Allow someone to come alongside you and help carry those burdens!

If you’re the one always walking alongside helping to carry the weight, you’ve got to learn to lean as well. You can’t always lean on those hurting, because they may not be ready to help carry you; however, you can find someone stronger than you to lend a helping hand. You’re not Superman! (Sorry to bust your bubble!)

Learn to lean. It’ll help you stand stronger.

Learn to release tears. They will wash your soul and help you to breathe deeper.

Learn to grieve. It’ll help your heart be real.

Learn to take a hand. It’ll help you to walk steady on that road to eternity.

Fight. Win. Share Your Story.

I found this pictured quote posted the other day, and it seems I’ve shared it a gazillion times this week. It’s such a simple statement; yet, it seems so profound. Everyone of us, whether you’d like to admit it or not, has someone within reach who has walked the new and painful paths we must face throughout life, often times, that person is even within your orbit of living.

Whether it be sickness, terminal illness, relationship heartbreak, job loss, death of a loved one, divorce, tragedy, or whatever, there is someone out there who can relate. Especially now, with as much access we all have in cyberspace, the ability to reach out to someone who at the very least has a slight understanding, is exponential. There are resources upon resources to find knowledge, personal experience testimonies and short groups for any every dilemma one might face.

In many ways, it seems to be easier now than any other time in history to overcome what dilemmas and trials might come. Yet, our suicide and trauma rates seem to be higher than any other time in history. I have a theory to this, and please forgive me, I’m not an expert, and I’m definitely not trying to trivialize any pain or conflict you may have experienced in a particular scenario. However, I do hope this theory will resonate: more often than not, we hav become a society that focuses too much on “me and mine,” rather than, realizing there is a whole new generation coming behind us who need the wisdom, the testimonies, the experience and the legacy of both failures and achievements that we can give.

Understand, I am not stating this from of “high and mighty judgment,” never realizing the pain of depression, sorrow or suicidal thoughts or tendencies. I have been to low points in my life that I’d rather not share in this current post. I have

If it had not been for the grace of God, the prayers of those who knew and loved me, and the self-fortitude and remembrance in my own heart and mind of my higher calling and purpose, I assure you, I wouldn’t be writing this today, and you could be visiting me in the cemetery on a sunny day.

I can attest to the truth of this quote. You come through those hellish nights, and you persevere through those grueling, sun-scorched days of pain in order to help someone else along the way. Or at least, you should, because it is through your testimony of grace and endurance that someone else can find their strength to hope for a brighter tomorrow.

So, push on, broken one. Hum until you sing again. Struggle until you find your fight. Strive until you thrive. For there is some lost soul searching in the dark for just one clear footstep to help lead them out beyond the storm.

Grief: It is a Process of Pain

One of the best articles I’ve read lately in grief is this one. If you are grieving due to anything other than a physical loss, such as divorce, abuse, neglect or estrangement, this article may not bring much healing to you, because your circumstances yield a much different needed response. However, if you’ve lost a loved one, and you’re walking through this painful journey, you may find some comfort and encouragement as you read through this widow’s pages.

Beautiful. Classy. Timeless. What every icon should be…

Tuesday’s Treats #99

Underground Coffeehouse

Location: Greenville, SC

This is one of the coolest coffee shops I’ve been to in a long time. You walk down below the sidewalk; so, it’s appropriately named, “Underground.” They have a plethora of coffee and desserts from which to choose. We went two days in a row, and everything was delicious. I had a coconut mocha, recommended by the barista, because I was indecisive. Excellent choice. It was absolutely delicious. The first day, we had just had a dessert; so, I just enjoyed my mocha. The second day, I ordered the apple cider pie a la mode. Yum. Now, it was a little heavy on the cinnamon; so, beware, but it was still very tasty. Our sons had a chocolate chip cookie, which was a little crunchy but still tasty, a s’mores iced and a caramel iced coffee. All were yummy.

The atmosphere is casual and cozy. WiFi is available, and everything is nice and clean; even though, you bus your own table. (Sometimes, that can leave a place a little less clean than desired.) They even have two separate movie rooms that can be rented for group venues. Oh, from glancing at their website, they also serve breakfast and lunch. Check it out; I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. 😉

Tuesday’s Treats #98

MochaMoe’s Coffeehouse

Location: Flowery Branch, Ga

This is a great place to grab a quick bite to go or to come and sit for a 2 hour long coffee chat. It’s comfortable. It’s cozy, and they’ve got a great cup of joe. They have live music on some weekends, and you can listen to many new and local artists as you sip your coffee and chat for a while. They even have a little play area for the kiddos. There are comfy couches, club chairs and cafe style tables and chairs. They have yummy soups and bagels, muffins and homemade cakes that vary from day to day. They may even serve lunch, but I’ve always been there in the evenings for coffee; so, I can’t speak to that. It’s a great place to meet a brand new friend or catch up on news with an lifetime companion who’s been absence for a while.

Check out their website for hours and upcoming guests.

Friday’s Friends #30

Today is FRIDAY!! Whoo-hoo! 🎉 That means it’s time to share a new “friend” with you.

I just found this sweet blog yesterday, and I thought it was perfect timing for today’s weekly event. My apologies for not having it posted at 11:00 this morning. I got distracted by a few things that had to be done, and I’m just getting back on here. 😜

Hanna has a great outlook on faith and hope, and I especially liked one of her more recent posts of how God is helping her to grow and strengthen spiritually, emotionally and mentally. She has a lot of wisdom for a young lady, and she’s learning more day by day. I do hope you’ll visit her site today, and I hope you’ll find encouragement as I did.

Looking for that Moment

I wouldn’t say I’m not a really bold person. Too often, I wish I were more bold, but my prayer lately has been for God to help me to see. “Open my eyes and let me see what and who You want me to see, and if you want me to speak, please, give me the courage, and I’ll speak. ” That’s been my prayer.

A few days ago, my husband and I walked onto a used car lot in town, met one of the salesmen, and he ended up sharing his story with us. He’s a retired South African pastor, living now in Georgia, and his wife is battling cancer for the second time. They’ve been married for 40 years, and he hopes and believes for 40 more; yet, when circumstances arise like this, it naturally brings doubts and fears. We stood right there in the parking lot and prayed for his wife’s healing.

Today, a lady showed up in our church foyer lost in her way to Florida. Mind you, our church is not just a step off the interstate; yet, her GPS had brought her down this street, and she stopped in for directions. She was on her way home to take care of her house before the possibility of Hurricane Irma sweeps in. I gave her directions and asked her if I could pray for her before she left. She said yes. We prayed; she cried, thanked me and went on her way. I have no idea if I’ll ever see her again, but I haven’t been able to get her off my mind all day. I pray she makes it home safely and that her home stays safe through the storm.

You never know who God will bring your way or why. The most important thing is to keep your eyes and hears open, ready and waiting for when He says, “Speak. Move. Tell them about Me.”

This is an older song, but it really puts “teeth” to what I’m trying to convey here. 😉 Hope you enjoy.

Friday Friends #29

Today is Friday, and I love Fridays, because I get to share with you a new “friend” here in this blogging community.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to Bel. She travels all over and shares the beautiful scenery, hiking tips and traveling wisdoms with her readers. She will also give you her opinion on a few different hiking apparel and other items that might help you in your travels. She does get paid commission for these, and she tells you that up front, but she’s not pushy or trying to market something. It’s just a simply linked post within the blog.

I’ve really enjoyed reading her posts, and she makes me want drop everything, hop on a plane and go exploring! I hope you will stop by and do some exploring yourself! 😊< img src=”https://thegrizzlegrist.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_1609-2.gif”>
