Run a Little. Walk a Lot.

How often do you walk or run?

Honestly, I don’t run at all. It’s actually not a good choice over the long haul. I know. I know. All the runners out there are scoffing right now. I’m sorry. I’ve read too much about the detrimental effect running has on your knees and all of your joints.

And I have watched personally a man in our community who proudly proclaims how much he runs (minimum 5miles) every day. I’ve seen him run in our community for the last 22 years, and he doesn’t look healthier. He looks older, more bent over, and stiff. Now, I know he’s only one example, and I’m sure you could give me a list of runners who are not so.

But I also have a troublesome knee that won’t let me run much. We did a running program a few years ago, and I was so excited to pick up my long forgotten running record from high school and try it again. To give a little background, in HS, we’d always have to do those fitness tests twice a year (yes. I know I’m that old. Lol), and we’d run all year long. So, I’d leave the girls behind and run with the guys. I usually would finish 4th to 5th place running anywhere from 5.30-6min miles. Once, I completed a 4.55minute mile, but I think I could’ve died that day. Haha.

Anyway, that’s nothing to brag about. There were three other guys who were lightening speed in comparison, and I’m sure some could read this and think that’s rather slow. Regardless, that’s not the point to this post…

So, I do try to walk, but I’m not consistent to do it everyday, and I certainly don’t walk as much as I probably should or even could. I read post by a good blogging friend, Linda Schuab over at Walkin’ Writin’, Wit & Whimsy, and I find goals I’d like to meet in my walking routines.

So, my goal is to just get out and do it! I am shooting for 3-5 days a week right now. And this week, I’ve got three days down and hope fully, I’ll have a chance to walk this evening; so, that would give me a four day week.

Here’s to walking and making a point to walk some more! ☺️

How about you? Are you a walker or a runner? What do you like about it, and what is a pain about it? I’d love to know!

Sometimes You Just Have to Walk

Yeah, you heard me right. There are times in your life when the best thing you can do is walk. Walk away from the anger. Walk away from the pain. Walk away from the confusion and strife. Walk away from all the drama that one person is bringing into your life again. And again. And again.

Now, there’s a whole blog I can write on endurance and perseverance and determination not to quit when the going gets tough. In fact, I’ve written those, and this post doesn’t change that. I am, also by no means, giving you permission to walk out on your spouse, your kids or your job. Use some common sense, and don’t try to justify your own desire for freedom from the commitments you’ve made. 😉

However, there is something to be said about getting drama out of your life. Over the years, I have watched too many people simply stay put in the midst of drama that they were never meant to be. There are people in this world who live their lives from one crazy crisis to the next, and they live with the expectations that you should live it with them. No, you should not.

If you are an adult, and you are surrounded by drama that someone else is creating, ask yourself, “WHY?” Why is the drama going on, and why do you feel you have to be a part of it? If it doesn’t concern you, why are you still there? If it does concern you, is it legit yours to own, or is it simply stupid drama drummed up by this other person?

Answer that “Why?” Do you need something from that person? Do you feel obligated to him or her? Do you feel an expectation to stay? (Again, why??) Do you gain some sort of self affirmation when you are in the midst of their drama? Do you simply need to feel needed?

Answer the “Why?,” and I promise you, you’ll realize you can walk away from this needless drama (or you’ll recognize your own fleshly desire for it). Drama causes strife. It causes unrest. It causes chaos and disorder. It can even cause health issues and sickness. It is not good. Walk away. Avoid it at all cost.

Sometimes, true love is shown by no longer being a crutch, an enabler or a punching bag for someone else who refuses to grow up and be somebody. Sometimes, you have to fight for who you are to become, and sometimes, that fight is walking away from needless drama in order to find and sustain the peace and clarity you need to live your life as it should be.

Move On

When you keep walking, you can reach your destination. When you keep moving, you can avoid a mess or even a tragedy. When you keep going forward, you are able to step into a new chapter of life. It is when we stop, when we hesitate for too long that we become stagnant.

Stagnation can lead to apathy, laziness and eventually death.
It also leads to a stench that no one wants to encounter. Have you ever been by an area that is filled with stagnant water? Do you remember the smell? It will begin to have a putrid, stale odor that you don’t want to hang around to endure very long.

That’s how it is in our lives when we stay fixated too long in things from which we should move on. When we stop at the time which we should move, we run the risk of becoming stagnant. We take the chance of getting lazy in our calling, in our purpose and even in our tenacity to finish.

Now, I’m not talking about those moments before God when we should come before Him to be quiet and still to hear His voice. I’m not talking about those moments of refreshing solitude. Our sanity depends on those. No, I’m talking about those moments when God is urging us forward, and it’s a little uncomfortable. Those moments when He is drawing us beyond where we’ve been, and it’s even a little painful to walk away from the warmth and comfort of what we know into a whole new place of challenge and change.

These are the moments with some of the most vital decision making of our lives. These are the moments when we choose to grow and become who God is calling us to be, or we choose to remain and become stagnant in our outlook and in our purpose of living. When we choose not to move forward, whether it be from the pain we feel, the shame we see or the fear we hear calling from the depths of our soul, we begin to die inside, and we may very well miss out on the opportunity God has for us just around the corner! So, keep moving to see what He has in store for you!

CONSUMED

I go throughout my day, consumed in my own thoughts.

I walk right past your door, hoping to not get caught.

You say hello. I do not hear, just keep walking past.

You wonder what went wrong. It seems to happen all too fast.

You act so strange, speaking today, without a word tomorrow.

What am I to do, consume myself in sorrow?

I will not sit here from day to day and wait.

You have decided to come around a little too late.

I have a life to live. Yes, I’ve got to go on living.

I cannot sit here until you want to start your giving.

You refused to take a look, even glance over my way.

As I stayed there and patiently waited day after day.

So, I a leaving you today, walking out without a sound.

You wonder what has happened, why I’m not still around.

You just took a moment too long, and now I’ve wasted time.

You’ll wonder and you’ll wait, but another mountain I’ve gone to climb.

I go throughout my day, consumed in my own thoughts.

I walk right past your door, hoping to not get caught.

You say hello. I do not hear, just keep on walking through.

As you are wondering why, I now realize, I really do miss you.
