My “friend” this week has been such an inspiration to me, and I do hope she will be the same for you. Heart and Soul is exactly that. I so enjoy popping over to her blog from time to time to read of her daily happenings or a new challenge she is conquering.

Th Donut Hole
Location: Destin, FL
This is an all time favorite when we’re in town. This local donought shop usually doesn’t disappoint…however, our last visit wasn’t as good as usual…but we’re convincing ourselves it was just the staffing that day. So, I am writing this review on the previous visits, because they were always so delicious, and I believe it will be great the next time we visit!
They have just about every kind of doughnut from which to choose: sour cream, glazed, chocolate, strawberry, blueberry, red velvet, etc. Everything is made fresh daily, and they also have a firm assortment of cakes and pies.
As you see on the sign above, their key lime pies are made daily, and I have to say they’re good but a little more on the sweet side and not enough of the tart key lime for my taste. The coffee is good, no frills and thrills, just a good strong, “donut shop” kind of coffee. They have milk and juice, too, I think, but I always get coffee with my sweets.
Apparently, after perusing their FB page, I realize they do serve breakfast and lunch, too. We’ve always just stopped by for dessert on our way to or from the hub of Destin; so, I can’t speak to the goodness of those meals. However, if it’s made anything like their sweets, it’s sure to be good! If you’re ever in the Destin area, drop by and check them out.
Oh, and so sorry for the half eaten pie here, but I had to share this bit of yumminess my son got the least time we went. He almost didn’t let me get a pic before he devoured it! Lol. It was some type of “brownie explosion” with cheesecake, brownie, graham crust, and it was delicious!
Today, I’d like to share with you a rather new blogger who has really inspired me. Her blog A Necessary Pain released a new post the other day, and I happened to come across it, because she found me and liked one of my posts. This post encouraged me so and reminded me, once again, that we are all on a journey in this life, and regardless of the pain we may have endured, when we share our story, others can find healing. I hope you will go by and visit, and I do hope you will be encouraged by the stories she shares. 🙂
Rotolo’s Pizzeria
Location: Gulf Breeze, FL
This place is great! We found it on a recent trip to Florida, and we will definitely be making it one of our “go-tos” while on the coast. Rotol’s has a great atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I love the brick walls and motif, and they have booths, tables and chairs, as well as, high tops and chairs to accommodate all types of seating endeavors.
The pizza was incredible, and I wish it hadn’t been so late, because I so wanted to eat the whole pan! However, I suppose, it was a good thing, because I would never go to a pizza joint to get a soup and salad. Yet, that’s exactly what I did, and I didn’t regret it one bit! You get to pick your soup and your salad; so, I chose the tomato basil soup with the spinach, cranberry, walnut salad. It was delicious!!
We will definitely be back again and again! Check out their website for more information, menu items and their various locations. Evidently, you can enjoy Rotolo’s not only when you are in Florida but in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas, too! It is so good, you’ll want to try it!

Caprese NY Pizza and Pasta
Location: Dacula, Ga
This little Italian place is good for a quick lunch or early dinner. I wouldn’t say it’s really a “date night” place, but that is to each one’s opinion. The place is small, but they have a lunch buffet during the weekdays that is pretty good. I’d have to rate this place with a solid “B+.” The food is definitely good. It’s not the best Italian I’ve ever had, yet, definitely not the worst either.
The meal was filling and tasty. My son and I ordered the personal pizza (10′), garlic rolls and a salad (for me). We still had one piece of pizza left over and a roll. We got a half pepperoni and half “the works.” The Greek salad I got was really good, and the Italian dressing had a strong oil and herb base, but it was delicious. Like I said, the pizza was tasty, but I wasn’t crazy about the Italian sausage on it. It just wasn’t as flavorful as I like Italian sausage to be; so, I did take that off. The rolls were just kind of average, but the garlic butter they were swimming in was delicious. I dipped my pizza crust in it! I do apologize for not getting a pic of the pizza. I had put away my camera by the time it came, and I completely forgot! 🙄
The restaurant is very clean, and the staff is very friendly. For a Saturday afternoon around 2:00pm, they had a decent crowd coming and going, too. So, if you’re in the area, you might give them a try. Here’s the website to find the location and menu items.
Karen has a special way of just getting into your heart and staying a while. She blogged many years ago, and then, she created a new site this year with a fresh new outlook. She is such an inspiration to so many, and she has fought hard to become the beautiful soul she is today. I am so proud of the hope she has brought forth and the art she is creating. Fortify Pi
Location: Clayton, Ga
Fortify is a cool place to eat in a little mountain town of North Georgia. The atmosphere is definitely modern, and the staff are friendly and inviting. The food is delicious and diverse. There are lots of pies from which to choose and the ingredients are definitely fresh. You can even check online to see what local farms they use to obtain their goods. They even have wings, salads, sandwiches and small plates.
The best way I can describe this pizza is it tastes clean. We got the pepperoni pizza and the supreme, and they both were delicious and “clean.” The ingredients tasted so fresh and without all the grease that usually comes with this stacked of a pizza. Yum!
Our oldest son opted for the hot wings, and he was not disappointed. Sorry that this pic is limited. I do believe there were a half dozen with which he began! 😉 They were very tasty, and we will definitely be going back! They, also, had house made ice cream; however, we were too stuffed to get dessert. This will be remedied on the next trip!

I love his 80s music section, and being an 80s child myself, I could get lost on these pages for a little while. haha. The sweetest part of this blog is what he describes as a dedication in his about section. Drop by over there and see the sweetness. 🙂
Bourbon Street Grille
Location: Dahlonega, Georgia
We love Bourbon Street! You definitely need to get there early if you’d like a good seat, because the place is rather small, and the good seats are pretty limited. It is located right on the Square in Dahlonega, and on a nice day, you can sit on the balcony and enjoy the sights and sounds of town.
We have eaten here a ton of times, and we’ve never had a bad meal; however, we do have our favorites. I love their shrimp and grits. It is served, in what looks like a small bowl, but let me tell you, it is filling. They serve it with a jalapeño cornbread muffin, and I usually get a salad before hand. The shrimp are cooked just right, and the grits are nice and creamy. There is a little bell pepper “chutney/relish” that is served on top, and honestly, the first time it was served, I wasn’t sure I would like it. However, it is very tasty and a nice addition to the dish.
Their burgers are delicious and so are the fried. You can tell the burgers are hand pattied and not frozen and the fried are fresh cut and fried in clean oil. Some people don’t care about all that, but it sure makes for a more delicious meal.
One time, recently, they had a daily special of blackened swordfish with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The swordfish was incredible! We’re not a fan of asparagus, but that was the only side with the potatoes; so, it sat lonely upon the plate as all the rest was gobbled up. We look for that special now whenever we go!
Next time you’re in the little mountain town of Dahlonega, be sure to stop by Bourbon Street. I don’t honk you’ll be disappointed. You can find their locations and menu items here.
