Tuesday’s Treats #95

Palmer’s
Location: Peachtree City, Ga.

Location is really cool. Atmosphere and staff is great. Food is amazing. The brisket sandwich, coupled with the sweet potato fries and street corn is off the chain! The sweet tea is truly Southern, and the key lime pie with sour cherries is simply amazing.

Now look, after our recent trip to The Keys, I might have become a bit of a KLP (Key Lime Pie) snob and really have a narrow preference on the “best” key lime pie, but anyone who starts taste testing them, especially in The Keys, will inevitably develop this type of persnicketiness. Lol. 😂<
owever, if you drop by Palmer's, you've got to have this on your "must taste" list. I'm not even a great big fan of cherries, but this thing is delicious! If it was served alone, I'm pretty certain the key lime would really be sweeter than I'd like; however, it's a perfect pairing with the sour cherries, which are almost candied in texture but have a distinct soured cherry taste. All this with the traditional graham cracker crust is a perfect match, and the taste combination is absolutely amazing.<

Tuesday’s Treats #94

The Pilot House Restaurant

Location: Key Largo, Fl

We found this restaurant as we were leaving Key Largo on our last day of vacation, and we were so glad we did! It was amazing. The view was perfect. It was cool to watch the boats come in and out of the marina, and the atmosphere was very cool. The wait staff were very hospitable and kind, and the food was amazing. We decided it was one of the best meals we had all week, and we put it on our “return list” for the next time we came.

Tuesday’s Treats #93

Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille

Location: Gainesville, Fl.

This was the first restaurant we went to after two weeks in The Keys, and let me tell you, their sweet tea is AMAZING! 😉 The atmosphere is great. The staff is friendly, and the food is delicious. If you’re in Gainesville, Fl., you’ll definitely want to check it out.

Before the meal, they bring fresh bread with this herb butter that is so delicious, you’ll be tempted just to fill up on that and forfeit the meal. However, let me assure you, the meal will be worth your restraint! The burgers are yummy, and the shrimp and grits were my favorite. The grits are made just “Southern style good,” and the shrimp is sautĂ©ed just right with just a touch of blackening. Oh yeah. I did get the sauce on the side, because I couldn’t tell by the description how it might be. Sometimes, the sauce can be overpowering and dominate the dish. It ended up being incredible, and I gladly poured it over the shrimp once this picture was taken.

For dessert, you have a plethora from which to choose, and we chose three: the Oreo doughnuts, key lime pie and pecan pie. Prepare yourself for those doughnuts. Oh. My. Word. Your arteries will be screaming before you even take a bite, but your tastebuds will thank you forever. 😂

They were amazing; yet, so rich, I only had two bites (plus, my pick was the pecan pie). My husband liked the key lime pie; however, compared to the other two desserts and the key lime pies we had while in the Keys, I wasn’t much impressed. Now, the pecan pie: WOW! The waiter had said he liked a different pie, but I opted for this one when he said, “It is a little too much pecan for me.” Look, I’m a southern girl, I’m not sure you can have too much pecans. Haha. It was absolutely amazing! I still have cravings for that yummy deliciousness.

Like I said, if you’re in the Gainesville area, and you’re looking for a great meal, Harry’s is the place to go. Check out their Website here.

Tuesday’s Treats #90

Square Grouper

Location: Mile Marker 29, Cudjoe Key, FL

This place has amazing atmosphere and an amazing grouper tater tot and chocolate peanut butter pie! Honestly, that’s about where I’d pause on my “raving” reviews. The rest of what our part had was good but not great. This restaurant is ranked #2 on the Trip Advisor reviews for best restaurants in the FL Keys; however, after a couple of weeks of vacationing there, my listing would just be a little different.

That being said, let me brag on the three things I loved the most:

The key lime pie was ok, but it was a little too sweet and not tart enough for my preference. The brownie sundae “thing” was amazing with the Heath bar crumbles on top, and the homemade lemonade was really good until you get to the last 10% of the glass when it tastes more like water.  💩

<<<<<<<<
heeseburger was great. It was served on a Chabayta bread, and the beef was thick and juicy. The fries were tasty, and the pickle was sour just as it's suppose to be.

The square grouper sandwich was definitely different and unique, but it was just kind of okay. I’m not sure if it was the build up for it (from TA reviews and the waitress’ recommendation) or the actuality of the food, but either way, we were let down. The skirt steak salad looked delicious, but our son said it was a sweeter tasting steak than he expected or desired. He also said the goat cheese was pretty heavy, and you have to really like goat cheese to enjoy it. <<<<<<<<
we enjoyed our meal with comfortable seats, decent food and enjoyable company. I guess I'd just have to say, considering it was ranked #2 in all of The Keys, and comparing it to a few other places we ate, we all left feeling kind of "meh." 😒 It really wasn't bad; it’s just if I’m going to pay $200+ for a party of seven at lunch, it might need to be a little better than this.  Evidently, it’s a local favorite despite our opinion, because as we were finishing our meal, the waitress mentioned that we had come at  just the right time. There was, now, an hour and a half long wait. This was about 3:00pm, and it was lunch time! … They do have a really cool lounge area that doubles as the waiting area (last pic), and they’ve got a neat aquarium in the center of the restaurant with genuine “square grouper.” 😉 So, be sure to check them out here, and you can decide for yourself if you like your Grouper a little more square. 😜

Tuesday’s Treats #89

Mile Marker 88

Location: Islamorada Key, FL

The food at this place is AMAZING!! We went here for a “late night snack,” and we ended up eating a whole meal. 😂 The blackened Mahi Caesar salad, blackened Hogfish salad and the blackened Mahi sandwich were the best! However, the most incredible thing was the rolls that were brought to the table before the meal. They were served with this olive oils dip that had garlic, tomatoes, and herbs. Oh. My. Word! I think I could have just picked up that dip bowl and drank it! Wow!!

<<<<<<<<<<<<
e here is just as delightful. They have inside and outdoor seating, and we chose outdoor seating at the "swing" tables. The booths rock back and forth like a gentle swing, and you can spend the time looking out over the lighted bay area that has fish swimming all along. It was beautiful! Oh, and our waiter was incredible as well. He was very engaging and friendly. We got there late, and although the course of our meal took us well over their 10pm closing time, he continued to be gracious and servant minded throughout. Check out the location and menu here.

Tuesday’s Treats #88

Culver’s

Location: Various Atlanta areas

Culver’s is a great little burger joint that’s popping up all over the Atlanta area. The burgers and chicken are good. The fries and tots are delicious, and the frozen custard desserts are a perfect ending to a good meal. The places I’ve visited so far are always clean, and the staff is always friendly. If you’re looking for a good, quick little burger stop that’s a little different, and a little better than your average fast food, check them out. Oh yeah, they do a little reward thing in their receipts where you can call a survey number, do a quick little survey, and get a free custard cone or cup! 😉 Here’s their website for locations and menu options.

Tuesday’s Treats #87

Capital Grill

Location: Washington, D.C.

This place has a lot of class and prestige, even if it did seem a bit pretentious that day. The waiter we had was really nice, and the food was delicious. However, I do wish there was a bit more of it, especially for the prices paid.

We went here, because we follow TripAdvisor pretty close while in a new city, and this stays in the top 5 of 2,000+ restaurants. (Yes, that’s not a typo; it’s 2,000!😳😜) Because of such high ratings, maybe I was expecting a bit more than we received, but honestly, I enjoyed a few other restaurants in the area a little better than this one. However, we didn’t get a bad meal. It just seemed a bit more pretentious than it needed to be, and the total bill seemed a bit high for the amount of food on the plate.

The sea bass and kids’ steak were delicious, and the steak sandwich was tasty. The lobster roll was better than fair, but I have had better. The fries were absolutely amazing. We had dessert back at the room; so, I can’t speak to that.

If you’re in D.C., it’s worth a try, as so many love it. Here’s their website to check out the menu and location.

Tuesday’s Treats #86

The Dawg House

Location: Buford, GA

The Dawg House is a great burger joint in the little town of Buford, Georgia. This place has the juiciest, tastiest burgers around. They have plenty from which to choose, too! There’s a great big board on the wall. Just pick one or two. All those varieties can be applied to their all need hotdogs as well, and if hotdogs weren’t fattening enough, they have one that tops them all. It’s a bacon wrapped, deep fried dawg! Oh. My. Word!

The fries, cokes and other items on the menu are just as good, and the service is always personal and friendly. My only piece of advice for them would be to get one more staff member during the lunch rush, because they run themselves in circles trying to serve that many people in such a short time with only two or three waitstaff and cashier.

I read an article not too long ago that they were supposed to be opening an additional creamery where they’re going to serve ice cream and a few desserts. Everything looked really good. I just can’t remember when that was projected to open. Maybe it’s time to stop back by and check it out.

Hope you stop by soon, and I hope you enjoy! Here’s their website for more information.

Tuesday’s Treats #85

Scoops

Location: Monroe, GA

Scoops is an amazing little ice cream and candy shop right in the downtown of a cute little town called Monroe. They’ve got great ice cream, assortments of vintage candy and new items, yummy coffee and even caramel apples that they they will slice right there for you! On a hot summer day, you can even sit in the rocking chairs out front and enjoy your nice cold ice cream, but you better eat it quick before it melts!

Hope you’ll stop by and enjoy! Check out their website for more information and locations.

Tuesday’s Treats #84

Rib Country

Location: Cleveland, GA

Rib Country is a great place to stop by on your way to several great places in North Georgia. It’s right on Highway 129 as you head north toward Blairsville, Yonah Mountain or the Sautee Nacoochee Gap area (east or west, depending from which direction you’re coming).

The atmosphere is pure country with all the beautiful wood. Tables and booths, mason jars for drinking and round, silver trays for getting your platter of meat. The staff are friendly, and, typically, the customers are, too.

I suggest the brisket platter or the chicken, but if you prefer pork, lots of people do. The salads are always good, and the onion loaf can feed a small crowd. There are several BBQ sauces from which to choose, and homemade nana pudding and cobbler can be chosen for dessert.

Honestly, this isn’t my favorite BBQ, but it’s a solid B when you’re in that area. The last time we visited, it wasn’t as good as usual, but I’m hoping it was just a passing moment. We’ll be trying it again soon, and we’re hoping it will be better.

Check them out here.
