Tuesday’s Treats #128

The Village Tavern

Location: Alpharetta, Ga

This place is great. The staff is nice. The food is yummy. But the warm butter cake is A. M. A. Z. I. N. G!!

This restaurant fills up quick during the lunch hours of the weekdays; so, be sure to get there early, or better yet, just call and make reservations for the time you need. The warm pimento cheese dip is definitely a great start to a great meal. The salmon is absolutely delicious. We also ordered the blackened grouper, but it wasn’t quite the favorite. The shrimp and grits was tasty, but the shrimp was boiled or steamed rather than blackened, as I like it, and it had a lot of bacon in the dish. I’m probably just a little more partial to the Charleston-style preparation to shrimp and grits, but if you like your shrimp and grits prepared this way, you’ll love the dish. If seafood isn’t your style, they have a plethora of items to choose for lunch, but be sure to save room for dessert!

There are several desserts that look delicious, and one in our party ordered the creme brûlée. She said it was wonderful, but I have to say that warm butter cake is ABSOLUTELY delicious!! Be sure to share it with a friend, because even though, you’ll want to scarf down the whole thing, your tummy might just not thank you for it later. Lol! I’m still having cravings for this thing, and I’m begging my husband for a return date very, very soon!! 😊

Tuesday’s Treats #127

Baumhower’s Victory Grill

Location: Auburn, Al

This used to be Bob’s Victory Grill. New menu, same place and staff. The place is cool, food is good, and the staff is friendly.

The good is still great, but they’ve taken off a few things from the menu that I’m really bummed about! CHICKEN PHILLY! This was absolutely amazing, and now, I don’t know what to order. The Royal Rooster Ana the Buffalo Chicken sandwiches are great, but they’re so messy, you have to eat them with a fork and a knife. Ugh. The gooey fries and the fried pickles are a must! They still serve the slaw and their amazing sauce before the meal. Add a pack of crushed up club crackers and call it a salad. Lol.

Our sons got the wings and the pizza. Both are amazing. So, maybe next time we come, I’ll get the pizza or try a calzone, because that pizza was pretty delicious!

The strawberry shortcake is amazing and so is the blackberry cobbler, but they need to skip the sundae appearance of the cobbler and just give you more! It’s so delicious, but you feel skimped, because the glass is filled half way with ice cream and whip cream. Great presentation, but I’d rather have a little more( See pic)!

Here’s their website for menu and location info.

Tuesday’s Treats #124

Depot Grille

Location: Lynchburg, VA

This place is really cool, set in an actual train depot that was once a hoppin’ place. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The wait staff is friendly, and the food is delicious.

We got the potato skins as an appetizer, and they were absolutely yummy. The buffalo chicken salad was spicy and tasty. The sirloin was good, but seemed a bit on the small side for the price, and the Philly Cheese steak was delicious! We enjoyed our meal and might just stop again if we’re back in the area.

Hope you enjoy!

Tuesday’s Treats #122

Culinary Studio Kryva Lypa

Location: Lviv, Ukraine

This place is absolutely the coolest, and the food is amazing! If you are in Lviv, you’ve got to find it, and to find it, you might have to search just a little bit. It’s “hidden away” in one of their many courtyards off from the Main Street, and you have to walk through a little “tunnel,” of sorts to get there. However, it’s not crazy difficult. I just put the address in my gps, and paid attention to my surroundings and found it easy enough. When you go through the “tunnel,” there will be a lounge that looks to be underground (I’m sorry. I do not remember the name, but it’s cool looking with it’s lights and entrance.), and there’s an ice cream shop on the right before you walk out of the tunnel. Then, it opens up to the great big courtyard with lots of restaurants, one of which is Lviv Croissants. That’s supposed to be crazy good and popular; so, maybe these directions will help you find your way. It’s well worth the search!

The atmosphere is amazing, and the staff is gracious, even to Americans who don’t speak a lick of Ukrainian! It’s not a very big place, but there’s plenty of room for moderate size parties, and it’s got so much character packed into such a smaller venue.

The food was absolutely amazing. We started with the cheese plate. It had 3 different types of cheese, grapes, and we had them bring us a basket of bread with it. Yum!

For our meal, we ordered the salmon filet, beef filet and homestyle fried potatoes. Both of these are in pictures on the menu, which they do have in English, if you need it. I was a little hesitant of the blueberry sauce they use on the beef, but no worries needed; it was absolutely delicious and so tender! I’m not sure exactly what the starch was on the side, maybe quinoa, but it wasn’t as grainy. It tasted pretty good with the blueberry sauce. My husband said the salmon was some of the best he’s ever had, and those potatoes were to die for!! We got cappuccinos at the end, and that was scrumptious as well. This will definitely be on our repeat list for our return visits to Lviv!

Here’s their website for menu and location information. At the top, you can choose several different languages for translations. 😉

Tuesday’s Treats #116

D’Armoyed

Location: Kiev, Ukraine

This place was really cool in atmosphere. It seems to be pretty new, and I couldn’t find a lot of info on line, but it’s well worth the visit.

The waiter knew just a bit of English, but they did have an English menu, and we were eating with Ukrainians; so, ordering was not a problem. The food was delicious, and the presentation was exquisite.

The Borsch, grilled chicken, potatoes with fried mushrooms and the Greek salad were all delicious. Our party also ordered other salads, dumplings, and some type of potato fritters (See pic), and everything was absolutely scrumptious! My favorite was probably the Borsch and the potatoes, but I think I kind of made those items my “food staples of choice” while in Ukraine! Lol. Hat chicken was amazing also, tasted like it came right out of the smoker!

Next time, we visit Kiev, this will be on the places to eat! They don’t have a website, but there is a Facebook page.

Tuesday’s Treats #110

Luna’s

Location: Gainesville, Ga

Luna’s is great for a nice, romantic lunch or dinner, business meeting or any family gathering. It is white tablecloths and assorted silverware type settings; so, choose accordingly, but I do believe you’d enjoy it. My husband and I went here for lunch, and although, we don’t exactly start the day thinking, “oh, we’ll go have a romantic lunch date today,” we were on a lunch date, and we did feel romantic!

As you can tell from the pics, the presentation is beautiful. (The first pic above is the oil dip for the delicious bread they bring before the meal.) The shrimp and grits were amazing, and the burger was incredible! The key lime pie was absolutely delicious. It tastes a lot like the key lime we get at our favorite restaurant in Florida, and I think might know where they get it. 😉

The waiter was great and the restaurant was almost empty; so, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We really enjoyed our lunch and will be back.

Tuesday’s Treats #108

Spirits Tavern

Location: Dahlonega, Ga

This restaurant is right off for he downtown square in Dahlonega, and the atmosphere is cool and comfortable. T might have a raucous environment at times; however, the 3 lunches and 2 dinner times we’ve been there have been fine.

The food is delicious. The Mac & Cheese bites are to die for. The Caesar salad with blackened chicken is tasty, and all the ingredients are fresh. The fried green tomatoes are amazing, topped with pimento cheese and bacon. The chicken noodle soup, burgers and chicken fingers are all yummy. The menu says they have homemade desserts, but we’ve yet to try them; so, I can’t speak to that.

This is one of our go-tos in Dahlonega, and we hope it will be for you, too. Here’s their website to find out more.

Tuesday’s Treats #104

Ostannya Barykada (or “The Last Barricade”)

Location: Kiev, Ukraine

From the secret code needed to gain entrance into the hidden door to the walls covered in Ukrainian memorabilia, the restaurant surrounds you with the pride and patriotism of Ukraine. You cannot help leaving feeling like you’re taking a bit of Ukraine home with you.

The menu is in both Ukrainian and English; so, don’t worry if you don’t speak the language. Be sure to start with the warm bread that is a bread bowl with melted Brie inside. Oh. My. Goodness. Yum! It is rye bread of which I’m actually not a big fan; yet, when paired with the cheese and jam, it is absolutely delicious! The chicken Kiev and fried potatoes and mushrooms are absolutely incredible, as is the steak and cherry dumplings. We weren’t brave enough to try the mashed potatoes with catfish, but one in our party did get regular mashed potatoes, and they were quite tasty.

The whole experience is definitely worth the effort to find this hidden gem in the middle of Kiev. I found an article on the restaurant, and I will share it here, as it doesn’t seem they have an actual website.

Tuesday’s Treats #92

The Swan Coach House

Location: Buckhead, Ga

Ok, so I have to be completely honest. I’m not what many would call a “girly girl.” I’ve always leaned toward the more rugged, tomboy type, or maybe just down right practical. I am much more comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt, boots and a ball cap while packing a pistol than I am dressing in frills and thrills, painting my nails and accomplishing the latest trendy shopping list.

It’s not that I have anything against all that stuff or any angst against “girly girls,” and it’s not like I can’t hang with the best of them. I’m a pretty good “adapter” when the occasion calls for it, and I have a huge variety of personality types in those who are close to me. In fact, two of my very best friends in the whole world are exactly that, girly girls, and they won’t be ashamed to say it. So, you shouldn’t fault me, or even shame me, for not being a “girly girl,” ok? It just hasn’t been my thing. Ever. In my whole life. In. My. Whole. Entire. Life. I’ve simply accepted that fact about myself and, despite being looked at as being weird sometimes, I’ve just learned to become comfortable in my own skin.

I went on that little diatribe to describe to you just how much I might not have been necessarily giddy the day I was to meet some of the most amazing women I know at this well known restaurant in Buckhead. I had never heard of it before, but the website was definitely full of “sugar and spice and everything nice,” metaphorically speaking.

So, I dressed appropriately, in a cute little black and white, trendy apparel, planned to arrive a little early, and just enjoy the people I was joining for lunch. I can say, from the moment the valet took the keys to my truck, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed.

Everything gushes with Southern Belle charm, and it is absolutely beautiful. We were escorted up the elevators and directed to Sally’s Porch, which is completely “described to a T” on their website:

Sally’s Porch is a radiant glass-enclosed front porch where sunlight filters and flows in through full-height glass windows. Furnished with four antique round tables and green curtains, this is an excellent choice for daytime soirees.

…I’m not even sure I knew what a soirée was before that day. I’m just kidding, but it was quite stunning with the sweet roses on the tables, the charming decor and the beautiful floor to ceiling windows with the warm sunbeams shining through.

The meal was tasty with their famous timbales of chicken salad, a frozen fruit salad and Swan House cheese straws, complete with a beautiful flower center. It was finished with a yummy slice of key lime pie. Everything was done to perfection and great care was taken in every presentation. A nice little gift shop is located downstairs where there is a plethora of specialties from which to choose, including a cool gallery of local art, pottery and such. After our lunch meeting, we went to tour the old Swan House Mansion and learned of its beautiful history and character, too. It was very intriguing, to say the least. (Oh, and Hunger Games fans, there’s even a sweet surprise for you inside.😉)

Treat yourself to a day of purely feminine, Southern Belle charm, this is the place to go. If you’re looking for a fun girls day lunch or dinner, this is your place. If you’re looking for a great place to make your daughter feel like a true princess on your Daddy-Daughter date, this is a wonderful choice.

…You get the picture. 😉 I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, and I think you’ll find this to be true, as I was reminded that day, it’s a beautiful thing when you can elegantly move past your own place of comfort and familiarity and join someone else in theirs to form a beautiful bridge of friendships, both old and new.

Please, be sure to check out their website for all the beauty and details.

Tuesday’s Treats #79

Figs Beanery & Creamery

Location: Anderson, SC

This little place has a great atmosphere and helpful staff. It’s really tiny; so, don’t feel like you’re gonna have a bunch of space, but there are a handful of tables and chairs inside and out, but at least drop by for a cookie and a cup of coffee, because you don’t want to miss it! They have a walk up window, too.

Their cookies and ice cream are delicious, and the coffee is just as good. I had their coconut pecan cookie, oatmeal raison and  half of a yummy, deliciousness of which I don’t know the name, but it had coconut, pecans, and chocolate chip goodness inside! Oh. My!

They do serve sandwiches and soups, and the several I saw looked delicious. They have plenty of ice cream from which to choose, and even sell big ice cream eager to make your own ice cream sandwich. There is whole bean coffee to buy and even soft drinks and teas.

It’s got a quaint little atmosphere that you really must experience. Check them out on the web
