As my thoughts today turn toward Father’s Day coming up, I think of the fathers I have had in my life. I hope you don’t mind if I reshare this post from last year…
*Lengthy post alert (just a little đ)*
Fatherâs Day invokes so many thoughts, feelings and emotions for so many. To look through social media lately, youâd think every woman is âDaddyâs Little Girl,â and most men are âDadâs Best Bud;â yet, for many, like myself, Fatherâs Day is filled with a pure mixture of emotions.

You see, as a small child, I hardly ever saw my biological Dad. He was an alcoholic, worked as a merchant marine and was off to sea more often than he was at home. His father wasnât really present in his life, and he didnât know how to be present in mine. Sure, he promised to call, promised to come, and Iâd watch and wait for hours. At four years old, Iâd even have my bags packed by the door, waiting for hours on end, only to realize, in the moments of crying myselfâŠ

Thinking of all the political jargon being spewed, all the arguments being waged, and all the words being regurgitated, between friends and foes alike, over the recent tragedies in our country turned my thoughts toward this today. We are in a battle, people, and it is not a battle of race, religion or policies; that is only a smokescreen for the real battle. It is a battle for the soul of man. The devil doesn’t care how he wins it. He just seeks to win your soul for his victory. Don’t let him have that luxury. Fight back…the right way…”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
There is a war down deep within.
It is a battlefield of purity and sin.
A struggle for what can be and what forever has been.
The one we feed the most is the one who will always win.
Everyday, this battle rages.
It has continued throughout the ages.
Through sin it has promised, death, its only wages.
Proven again and again throughout historyâs pages.
A flesh-filled life gives in to every whim
It holds you in its grasp as your light slowly dims.
The lamp of salvation burns, the wick is always trim.
Hope fills the void, joy overflows the life that once was grim.
A life of peace, to you, He longs to bring.
Hope, love and joy in abundance, He has these things.
He takes away the pain. He heals those life stings.
Your name is called, throughout eternity it rings.
Away from heartache and brokenness itâŠ

Okay, I know I should have had such a better picture to post today, but I promise you, this Hello Dollie will be one of the best things you’ll put in your mouth!

These are rather delicious, too. Homemade coconut pecan cookies, two of my favorite flavors in one bite. Wow.

Okay, excuse me for getting distracted, but it’s yummy desserts. I always get distracted by dessert! Â So, now onto the rest of the story. This place is simply delightful. You walk in and feel like you’re entering a little storefront cafe. You order at the counter, take a number and then find a table. There are adjoining shops where you can meaner while you wait or after your meal; it’s probably best after your meal, as you have a number that your waiter has to find once your meal is ready, but I was able to find a table right beside one of the shops; so, I took a quick peak while I waited. It took just a few minutes for them to being my (already mentioned) yummy desserts and my lunch special of chicken salad on croissant with a small cup of chicken noodle soup. (I’m sorry I don’t have a pic. I thought I had, but I can’t find it! đ) They call this sandwich the Rebecca’s Famous Chicken Salad, chosen by Esquire Magazine as one of the best sandwiches in America, and if you like chicken salad, I can see why. It is delicious. They took that croissant, loaded it with this yummy chicken salad and grilled it just enough to toast the outside without heating up the salad or lettuce. I am really picky with chicken salad, too; so, I was a little hesitant. I don’t like a lot of mayo or celery, the chicken can’t be fatty and the grapes need to be firm and fresh. This one is made perfect!
To be honest, I probably won’t order the chicken soup again. It was more like Campbell’s condensed soup with larger noodles, which isn’t too bad, but I just didn’t care too much for it. I’ll try the chili next time. They offer that everyday, and I think that might be one of their better ones.
Everything else was wonderful, and I will definitely be back again. I knew I’ve included the menus in the photos, but you may need some more info, like their location. đ Here ya go.
The sky is so hard to describe in mere words; thus, I’d like to “paint” a picture of sorts…
When the Son seems to be hiding from view, will you still seek Him?
When all is bright, cheery and beautiful, will you still remember Who He is?
When the hustle and bustle of your world is rising above your head, and you can’t see anything beyond the demand of today, will you still search for more?
When the storms roll in, and the seas rage the shores of your life, where does your faith stand?
When the winds seem to overpower your resolve and the clouds block your view of Him, will praise still be upon your lips?
Will the promise of hope be found implanted in your heart, never to be shattered by pain, loneliness or fear?
For the dawn of day shall shine again! Stand your ground. Hold on, my love, your salvation is here.
Simply rest in His peace. Trust in His sovereignty, and bask in His glory. It will shine like a star in the sky.

Dedicated to movie nerdom, nostalgia, and escape. In the late 90s, I worked at Blockbuster Video where they let me take home two free movies a day. I caught up on the classics and reviewed theatrical releases for Denver 'burbs newspapers and magazines. Today, while raising two young, beautiful daughters with my amazing wife, I look forward to anything rated R and not Bluey. Comments and dialogue encouraged!
