You set the tone, Momma!

Thinking of a little dispute I had with our oldest yesterday… As moms, we really do set the tone. Let us always strive to set the right one. 😉

If you’re a momma or one day hope to be, I hope you will listen to what I have to give.
You can make or break that home in which you live.
You have the power to make it cheery or make it sad.
You have the power to make it good or make it bad.

You see, we women set the tone for how our families will respond.
We set the stage for this life to be and how each day will dawn.
If we rant and rave, tap our feet, cross our arms and glare, they see us.
They notice when we reach out a hand to comfort, pause for an embrace, or just give a little wink and a smile…and even if we allow our mouths to cuss.

Our children have to make choices, and yes, our husband is accountable for what they allow near.
But mark…

Love Him So!

Since it’s so late tonight, I’m just now getting to post for today, and we’ve been celebrating him this month anyway, I’m going to just post one of my favorite pics (currently)…

…and this…

I love what we have, and I never want to let it go. After 20+ years, we are still madly in love; he is still my best friend, and I am his.

This kind of love doesn’t come easy, and it doesn’t stay when you take it for granted. This kind of love is fought for, guarded and treasured. This kind of love can only be found as the two seek wholeheartedly after a holy and perfect God, who changes and transforms our imperfect abilities into little daily miracles that keep this love alive, that make this love not simply survive but rather to thrive

Only a loving Heavenly Father can make a fairytale dream come true. Only hearts focused solely on Him can help to see it as a fairytale dream come true. Sometimes, it really is in your perspective. It is what you choose to see and upon what you choose to dwell. You can see all the negatives, all the failures, all that is lacking, or you can choose to see with eyes of love and grace. It is up to both of you. You can build your life together “brick by loving brick,” or you can tear it down and destroy it in the very same way! It takes two…no, that is incorrect…it takes THREE. 😉

I am eternally grateful for God bringing us together, and I am eternally grateful for you and your love for me. ❤️

*Photo Credits: both of these pics were taken by a very good friend of mine. Thanks, JB! 😉💕

Wednesday’s Ode #27

Reblogging as we are celebrating again this week! I deeply love each one of these guys, and I am so thankful for God blessing me so abundantly!! ❤️

I love celebrating LIFE! This week, we celebrate so many birthdays in our family, and it makes for a very busy but fun time!!

My son’s special day comes first, and he turns 14 this year. It is so exciting to watch him grow into a young man; yet, it is with tearful eyes that I smile, because I reminisce of days gone by and look toward days without him home. He is an incredible young man. You can read a little more about him in my post from yesterday. I am definitely a proud mom! 😊

Next, we celebrate my dad’s birthday. He is a great guy! He is actually my “stepdad,” but since the tender age of 12, he has been my dad. He loves outdoors, wildlife and the mountains. He is gentle spoken, a deep thinker and a diligent study of history, nature and all things…

America the Beautiful

Happy Fourth to all. I love my country. It may not be perfect, but it is still a good nation, and I know it CAN be great again! This land was made great by the men and women who fought and died for it, and I am thankful for my freedom today. America was a land they dreamed of, believe in, fought for and were willing to die for. That is what it takes to make a nation great: dreams, aspirations, application and sacrifice. Can you remember…?

Her majestic mountains once rose above the clouds;

They once challenged men to climb her rugged stairs to bow.

Her magnificent waterfalls once dropped deep into the valley;

They once inspired men to race down her rocky waves to rally.

Her awesome wildlife once soared above or scurried below;

They once entranced men to follow her and reap what they’ve sown.

These men have come and abused her rugged land.

They have crumbled her majestic mountains to form contraband.

These men have come and drained her waterways.

They have closed her powerful rivers to produce longer days.

These men have come and devastated her wilderness.

They have destroyed her beautiful creatures to make a their money nest.

Because of this,  America is in what we abide.

Man has taken over, ruled and abused her countryside.

They have caused her air to pollute, her animals to scatter and her flowers to wilt.

Press on Through

Thinking about a inward struggle today and realizing, sometimes, you’ve just got to keep pressing through till the end. It WILL be worth it!! 😉

(Sorry, these pics are only of the backs of the shirts to protect the camp name and location. 😉 )

This week, I was at Youth Camp with 400+ 3rd-5th graders. It was hot. It was loud and crazy, and I had to do tie-dye, outside, at 2:30 in the afternoon for 3 days! On Tuesday, I mixed up some yellow dye, and apparently, I had an allergic reaction to whatever I breathed in, because by the time we finished the craft session, I had totally lost my voice and felt like I’d been hit by a Mack truck.

By the end of the night Tuesday, I really felt awful, and this feeling kind of came and went the rest of the week, mostly coming. Yet, I just made a decision early Wednesday morning that this wasn’t about me, and how I didn’t feel good, how I’d really just like…

Happy Father’s Day

As my thoughts today turn toward Father’s Day coming up, I think of the fathers I have had in my life. I hope you don’t mind if I reshare this post from last year…

The WheatandTares's avatarthe grizzle grist mill

*Lengthy post alert (just a little 😉)*

Father’s Day invokes so many thoughts, feelings and emotions for so many. To look through social media lately, you’d think every woman is “Daddy’s Little Girl,” and most men are “Dad’s Best Bud;” yet, for many, like myself, Father’s Day is filled with a pure mixture of emotions.

You see, as a small child, I hardly ever saw my biological Dad. He was an alcoholic, worked as a merchant marine and was off to sea more often than he was at home. His father wasn’t really present in his life, and he didn’t know how to be present in mine. Sure, he promised to call, promised to come, and I’d watch and wait for hours. At four years old, I’d even have my bags packed by the door, waiting for hours on end, only to realize, in the moments of crying myself…

The Battle Rages

Thinking of all the political jargon being spewed, all the arguments being waged, and all the words being regurgitated, between friends and foes alike, over the recent tragedies in our country turned my thoughts toward this today. We are in a battle, people, and it is not a battle of race, religion or policies; that is only a smokescreen for the real battle. It is a battle for the soul of man. The devil doesn’t care how he wins it. He just seeks to win your soul for his victory. Don’t let him have that luxury. Fight back…the right way…”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

The WheatandTares's avatarthe grizzle grist mill

There is a war down deep within.
It is a battlefield of purity and sin.
A struggle for what can be and what forever has been.
The one we feed the most is the one who will always win.

Everyday, this battle rages.
It has continued throughout the ages.
Through sin it has promised, death, its only wages.
Proven again and again throughout history’s pages.

A flesh-filled life gives in to every whim
It holds you in its grasp as your light slowly dims.
The lamp of salvation burns, the wick is always trim.
Hope fills the void, joy overflows the life that once was grim.

A life of peace, to you, He longs to bring.
Hope, love and joy in abundance, He has these things.
He takes away the pain. He heals those life stings.
Your name is called, throughout eternity it rings.

Away from heartache and brokenness it…

Cloud of Lies

Don’t be blinded by the cloud of lies. Our lives must be grounded in His Word.

The WheatandTares's avatarthe grizzle grist mill

You walk around in a cloud.

Voices are heard. Faces are seen.

Yet you never realize where they lean.

You paint a smile. You wave a hand.

Yet you never recognize where they land.

They run ever fast, but never arrive.

Opinions are spoken. Agendas are made.

Yet they never hear truth inside the raid.

They fight. They scramble for their own selfish sight.

Yet they never listen to anything that is right.

We spill out the words, never making sense.

Abuses are dreamt. Fantasies are taken.

Yet standards of honesty and peace are forsaken

We believe. We trust this is the better way.

Yet our children are being raised within the broken fray.

You walk around in a cloud.

Voices are heard. Faces are seen.

Yet you never know death is knocking; all is serene.

You live your life thinking this is the best.

Yet you never surrender; all…
