Tuesday’s Treats #80

Old Ebitt Grill

Location: Washington D.C.

If you go to the Old Ebbitt Grill, you’ve got to try the shrimp and grits! Oh. My. Goodness! Amazing! The grit cake has a deep fried breading, but somehow, they left the grits all creamy and delicious on the inside. The shrimp are huge and succulent, and the sauce is incredible.

My husband said the jalapeño burger is one of the best burgers he’s ever had! My oldest son got the buffalo fried chicken sandwich, which he absolutely loved, and he doesn’t even like slaw! Even the chicken fingers that our youngest had were gobbled up in a flash. The sandwiches were all served with hand cut French fries, and they were great!

This place is absolutely amazing! It’s right in the “hub” of Washington DC; so, if pure needing to get a bite while you’re out and about, it’s easy to get there. I’m sorry, I can’t vouch for the ease of parking, as we walked everywhere, but it was an easy trek from our hotel on the way to our site seeing adventures around the national monuments. The atmosphere is great for lunch or dinner.

You can check out the menu and hours here, and just as a note for anyone from the South who really loves your sweet tea: the “syrup-sweetened” sweet tea is really more like an Arnold Palmer. So, if you like your tea like that, you’ll be fine; otherwise, just stick to water or a Coke. 😉

What Is Your Story?

You have a story worth sharing. Share your story. You never know the impact you might have..

My father-in-law shared this thought the other day, and I thought I’d elaborate on it a little and pass it along…

tell-your-story thomasseng.com

Everybody has a story. A story of pain. A story of heartache. A story of victory. A story of healing. What is your story? God uses our stories to bring comfort to those around us. If we don’t share our stories, then, others miss out on huge blessings, encouragement and healing for their own situations.

God allows us to go through stuff sometimes; so, we can, in turn, share with someone else our struggles, our lessons learned and the moments we overcame. Why should we hold these within our hearts, never giving them away? You might learn things without a teacher, but isn’t it easier to hear of another’s experience and learn from his or her mistakes before going through the same thing ourselves? We all go through painful storms, but…

How Do You Do It?

Thankful for a God who is alive and well, who hears my cries of desperation and who gives me joy through life’s difficult journeys. He is a great big, AWESOME God! 💗 … if you don’t know Him today, I challenge you to give Him a moment of your time. You won’t be disappointed.😉

I watch as a mother holds the hand of her 12 year old battling cancer in a children’s hospital day after day. I look on as a wife says goodbye to her man of almost 60 years. I wipe a tear as I read a story of a family that’s dealing with the death of two grandchildren, a son and daughter in law, all in the same week, and I wonder how you do it?

How do you survive in this world without the love of Christ to sustain you? I wonder how you make it through these darkened days of tragedy and pain. I can’t imagine living my life with no hope, no joy, no faith in a Higher Power than myself.

Maybe you’ll think I am just weak, that I simply need a crutch to walk through this life…well, I have found I can’t even walk without holding…

Move from Strength to Strength, Momma!

As I’m recovering from an awful virus tonight and thinking of all the things I need to do through the rest of this week, I came across this older post. I needed this today, and I hope you do, too. I pray you will be encouraged to live your life by strength and grace. 💗

We sang a song in choir the other day that had this verse, “We move from strength to strength…” It was running through my head this morning, and I thought of my grandparents. They have always been pillars of strength and my examples to follow in life. As a mom, these examples have helped me to be a better mom, a better wife, and, in general, just a better person.

My grandfather was a “man’s man,” nothing ever seemed impossible to him. He grew up poor, was ridiculed and pushed himself to success. He founded his own heating and air business, was county commissioner of his small town, retired at a young age and lived out his days enjoying life and traveling with his wife to see kids, grandkids and sights all over the US.

My grandmother was born in the first year of the depression to a commercial fisherman and his wife. She had…

Tuesday’s Treats #79

Figs Beanery & Creamery

Location: Anderson, SC

This little place has a great atmosphere and helpful staff. It’s really tiny; so, don’t feel like you’re gonna have a bunch of space, but there are a handful of tables and chairs inside and out, but at least drop by for a cookie and a cup of coffee, because you don’t want to miss it! They have a walk up window, too.

Their cookies and ice cream are delicious, and the coffee is just as good. I had their coconut pecan cookie, oatmeal raison and  half of a yummy, deliciousness of which I don’t know the name, but it had coconut, pecans, and chocolate chip goodness inside! Oh. My!

They do serve sandwiches and soups, and the several I saw looked delicious. They have plenty of ice cream from which to choose, and even sell big ice cream eager to make your own ice cream sandwich. There is whole bean coffee to buy and even soft drinks and teas.

It’s got a quaint little atmosphere that you really must experience. Check them out on the web

Friday’s Friends #25

Today is Friday, and that means I get to share with you a new friend in this blogosphere! 🎉

Today, I’d like to share a new friend who is also relatively new to this whole community of bloggers. On Andrew’s site, you will find wonder, encouragement and a sense of self discovery that is both enlightening and refreshing. His words are raw, unedited and self-revealing, and I hope you enjoy reading his entries as I have.

Hope you have an AMAZING Friday! 💗

What Do You Celebrate?

At the beginning of this month, we celebrated the Fourth of July with some of our family, and the fireworks display at the end of the night was the perfect ending to a perfect day. It was absolutely beautiful!

We all celebrate things, people and happenings in our lives. We celebrate holidays, birthdays and new beginnings. We celebrate new babies, marriages, graduations and retirements, but I wonder how often we stop and actually ponder those celebrations. I wonder if we actually think about who and what we are celebrating.

Do we see the person or just simply the event in their life? Do we recognize the growth in the graduate, or do we only see the loss of a child at home? Do we see the joy in the eyes of the new mom and her baby, or do we only see the birth? Do we see the wealth of wisdom in the retiree, or do we only see the age and tired body?

As I was going back through those pictures of the fireworks and reminiscing the day, I smiled as I thought of our family and the celebration. It wasn’t simply a day to celebrate a patriotic holiday and a few beautiful fireworks. We joined together to celebrate the strength of family, the joy of togetherness, and the gratefulness we have to live in this country of the free and the brave.

Yeah, now THAT’S a celebration. 😉❤️🇺🇸

Tuesday’s Treats #78

Doolittle’s

Location: Anderson, SC

Doolittle’s is a great little place in downtown Anderson that everyone needs to try at least once. To be honest, the inside could stand a little upgrade, as it definitely gives the throwback to a few decades, but we opted to sit out on the open, brick laid patio during the beautiful Spring day on which we arrived. We did not leave disappointed.

The pictures can pretty much speak for themselves, but I will describe it for you… The country fried chicken, mac and cheese and broccoli was “hit” with our oldest son who absolutely loves chicken. The mac and cheese wasn’t quite homemade, but it was still cheesy and yummy. The cheese steak was a bit heavy with the hoagie bread, but it was still scrumptious covered in all the cheese, mushrooms and bell peppers. The burger was juicy and delicious, as well, complete with cheddar, lettuce and tomato with fries on the side. Oh, and they also have a soup of the day, and on that day, it was corn chowder… Oh, Wow!

Like I suggested, if you’re headed to downtown Anderson, it’s worth a stop, and you’ll probably want to sit outside on a beautiful sunny afternoon. For more information, here is their website.

One last thing, while you’re there, save a little room for dessert and head down the street to Figs Beanery and Creamery! … I’ll tell you more about it in next week’s Tuesday’s Treats! 😉

Keep Pushing On…Growth Will Come

Sometimes, true growth in one particular area of our life may seem like it will NEVER come. Sometimes, the internal growth is so deep, it will take a lifetime of process, change and adjustment, and it will seem as if this process is eternal sandpaper against your very soul. Yet, can I encourage you to not give up? Can I challenge you to allow that sandpaper to continue it’s work against your soul?

For, I have found, it is better to live within a lifetime of uncomfortable transitions and change than to become stagnant in the comfort of the mundane. The mundane is soothing and easy, but it will lull your senses to sleep, and you will find your heart full of regret and sorrow in those last, precious breaths of life.

To maintain growth within our spirit and a rejuvenation within our soul, we must allow change to come. We must allow Him to prune and reprove those things which we find comforting and reassuring of our own “righteousness.” Even when the pruning process seems repetitive, methodical and even painstakingly slow, we can rejoice in the process. For, in that process, we find hope, strength and life.

He will bring the needed change, even if it takes a lifetime for us to embrace it. I promise you, we will be a better person for it. Just trust Him, and let Him finish what He has begun.
