Tuesday’s Treats #176

KTCHN

Location: Brevard, NC

This place has a great atmosphere and really good food. The servers were nice, and we left full and happy. The vegetable beef soup we ordered as an appetizer was incredible. The special of the day was chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and our son ordered “Lola’s Mac and cheese” with it. The chicken was a tad bit dry but had a great taste. The Mac and cheese was just like homemade and AMAZING. Our youngest ordered pepperoni pizza, and it was delicious. My husband ordered the prime rib sandwich, and it was very tasty. I had the chicken sandwich with bacon and an herb mayo. I don’t even like mayo, and it was incredible. They had several other items on the menu we’d have like to try. Maybe we’ll be back one day.

*Btw, yes, that IS the correct spelling! 😉

Tuesday’s Treats #175

Square Root

Location: Brevard, NC

We are here three times during our vacation. The first two times were absolutely amazing…the third time, maybe not so much. The atmosphere is great, but if you want a corner or wall seat, you need to make reservations or arrive early. It gets crazy packed. There is also nice outside seating for both lunch and dinner.

The pretzel barrel app is crazy good! The pretzel is delicious along with the smoked Gouda, Swiss, salami, ham, pimento cheese, and mustard…the fried black eyed peas weren’t quite my taste, but you might like them.

Like I mentioned, we ate here a total of three times. The salmon on cedar plank is so very good. The first time, my husband ordered it as it is on the menu, but the next time, he ordered it with pimento cheese grits. Oh. My. The egg battered fried grouper sandwich, on a pretzel bun, is very tasty. The burgers are amazing, and our son loved the kids pepperoni pizza.

The second time we were here, my husband had his salmon on the grits, and I ordered the chicken marsala, and both were Oh. My. Word. Amazing!!

The third time we ate here, the pretzel board and the pizza was still amazing; however, the grouper sandwich, BLGT (bacon, lettuce and fried green tomato) and rabbit gumbo, maybe not so much. The waitress was kind enough to remove the sandwich charge, and we went next door for chocolates; so, all is good. 😉 oh, and the sides were all tasty: sautéed zucchini, fries, salad, fried zucchini slices.

The desserts were scrumptious; even if the key lime pie didn’t have a stitch of key lime in it! 😂 It actually was an amazing taste of sweetened condensed milk creamy goodness on an Oreo crust. The tuxedo cake was also delicious with it’s three different, creamy chocolate-y goodness.

Big Mike’s Pizza

Brevard, NC

This place was busy, the room had cool motif, but the “corners” were a bit dirty; so, we were worried, at first, that we may have walked into a not so great place. Well, we were wrong! The waitress was so sweet, and she worked her tail off serving and cleaning the whole time we were there! The food was absolutely amazing!!

We ordered wings and a large medium pizza, half pepperoni and half supreme. Oh. My. Goodness. Everything was amazing! We will definitely be back!! What a great place!

Oh, and next time, we’re going to order a calzone. Two of these were served while we were there, and they looked amazing!!

Tuesday’s Treats #173

Rocky’s Old Fashion Soda Fountain & Grill

Location: Brevard, NC

Oh. My! Oh. My! Oh. My! This place is the “bomb,” as my son used to say! When they say old fashion, they weren’t kidding! The place is totally vintage, and the staff and food are amazing!

We ordered all kinds of burgers and a pimento cheese sandwich with bacon. The burgers were absolutely amazing! You’ve got to try the pimento cheese with bacon, both on the burger, and on the sandwich! The burgers could be a little thicker for some liking, but I thought they were great. The buns taste amazing, and the chips are good. It’s a bit disappointing to get chips with burgers, but we all agreed it was nice to sit in the restaurant and not smell all the grease from fried potatoes.

Ok, now for the desserts. If you like old fashioned milkshakes, root beer floats, brownie sundaes, or anything with ice cream, this is your kind of place!! Between our two visits and ten people, we ordered chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes, hot fudge brownie sundae, strawberry ice cream with sprinkles, vanilla ice cream on a cone and a root beer float. Everything was incredible! The strawberry milkshake and the brownie sundae were probably my favorites. The strawberry milkshake is made with vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries added; the kind that get stuck in your straw with the “just right blended” amount of ice cream. It almost tasted like homemade strawberry ice cream! (The chocolate shake was also made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. If you like it doubles, you can order chocolate on chocolate.) The hot fudge brownie sundae was to die for! Holy Moly! Good God Almighty! 😂 I think I gained 5 lbs just looking at it, and probably another 5 lbs eating it! It was soooo good!!

We will be back there a thousand times over whenever we can! Be sure to check out the D.D. Bullwinkle’s gift shop next door as well, and note, if the line is too long in the restaurant to pay your bill, you can head into the gift shop to pay as well. 😉

Tuesday’s Treats #170

The Falls Landing

Location: Brevard, NC

This is a great place for lunch, and it seems quite packed most of the time, but if you enjoy certain seating arrangements in a restaurant (like a corner, wall or booth setting), I’d definitely arrive early. This is a rather small restaurant, and the seating is pretty limited. There are two cool window tables, three booths around the bar area, three tables on the other side of this granite wall, and then, the rest of the tables and chairs a pretty much like cafe seating. It’s a nice atmosphere; however, I’m not sure I’d come for a romantic dinner or anything like that, but then, we didn’t come at night. It could be different.

Even though, we came actually looking for a steak, the food was tasty. They don’t have steaks on the lunch menu, and they don’t allow you to order from the dinner menu. So, we perused the lunch menu and chose from it.

My husband ordered the salmon BLT; our son ordered the beef tip sandwich without the bread, and I had the chicken club. My husband’s sandwich and mine was delicious. As sides, my husband got fries, and I got a side salad. Our son didn’t really like his, and I think it was mainly due to the fact the steak wasn’t really seasoned. I suppose, because it was made for the sandwich, which was to have pepper jack, onions, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Regardless, would have been nice to have it a bit seasoned.

The desserts were incredible! I do have to say, the key lime was lacking a bit in the crust, a little too thin to my liking, but the pie itself was tasty and tart. The molten lava cake was a big hit with our son. However, the derby pie absolutely stole the show!! Oh. My. Goodness. I could have eaten a whole piece of that myself! We will probably go back just for the desserts!

Tuesday’s Treats #168

*My apologies to anyone who reads Tuesday’s Treats, and you’ve wondered where they’ve been! They’re back online, and, hopefully, here to stay for awhile!😉*

Marco’s Trattoria

Location: Brevard, NC

We dropped by here after a long day of traveling, and we had plans to simply feed our teenage son and get a “little bite of something.” Well, a bread basket, two soups, salad, cheese pizza (for son), and an entree of baked halibut later, we left stuffed!! 😂 Everything was delicious, and we will definitely be back!

The italian bread basket is served with an olive oil/herb mix that is incredible. The tomato basil soup and crab bisque was amazing, and the halibut was tasty. We ordered both soups, because we wanted to taste each. I think we both enjoyed the tomato basil a bit more than the crab, but each one was unique and delicious.

The baked halibut had a lemon garlic sauce and topped with crab meat. Halibut is one of my favorite fish, and you can’t find it all the time; thus, the reason we splurged. Honestly, I’m not sure I’d order it again. It was definitely tasty, but we both decided we like grilled or blackened halibut best. The salad was also tasty, as was the pizza.

They do make the pizzas with King Arthur’s non-bleached, non-bromated flour; so, that made me very happy. (It’s better for you… if you can consider pizza “healthy.”😂) If you’ve not had this type, it’s makes the crust a tad bit sweeter and more filling than regular pizza dough, and the ingredients on top were delicious! They have several “pre-made” types, and they have a build-your-own choice with a plethora of toppings.

The atmosphere is nice, and there are tables and chairs, as well as, a few booths and outdoor seating. We are here on a Monday night, and the host asked if we had reservations. We didn’t and we’re led to a nice corner table, but when a booth opened up, we did ask if we could move there. The waitress said she’s have to see if it was reserved; so, apparently, if you want a particular seat I think the house, be sure to call ahead.
