Friday Fun Day

So sorry that I failed to post this before Friday was up!

It seems my Fridays have been quite full lately, but not really full of lots of fun.

So, we’ve found fun in the moments where we can find them and we enjoyed every minute of we had!

Sometimes, the day is brimming to the top with to do lists and deadlines, and you’d rather be sailing.

Sometimes, the second hand on the clock just doesn’t seem to move. It moves along with millimeter speed.

And then, it seems everyone else moves at that millimeter speed, too.

Can’t anyone accelerate? I have things to accomplish before I sleep!

Sometimes, you just drop the evening workload in the office and commute it to the boat.

Because perfect sailing in the fall only happens a handful of times, especially with a spectacular sunset and a breathtaking moonrise…

Yes, go find your Friday Funday.

Even if it’s in a few hours, under an hour, or only a few fleeting moments.

You can do this. You were meant for it!

Happy Friday Fun Day!

This is the Moon on the water.

Tuesday’s Treats #204

City Central Tavern

Location: Sugar Hill, Ga

*I know it’s Wednesday, but ‘better late than never,’ right? Ha!😂

This place has a great atmosphere, and you can enjoy your meal inside or outside on the patio, complete with a a cushioned couch and a beautiful working waterfall.
Yes, this is a pretzel. It’s an appetizer, and it is delicious! What a great presentation!
Southwest Chicken Skillet. Delicious!!
My son gobbled up a taco before I got the pic! 😂 He said they were very tasty!
I didn’t get a pic of all the food, as we gobbled it up when it arrived! Lol. However, I did get a pic of the menu. The choices are pretty unique to CCT, and I believe you won’t be disappointed.

We have ordered the Shrimp and Grit Bowl, the Southwest Chicken Skillet, the Classic Burger, the wings and the Chili Dog. As you can see from these choices, it’s basically a high scale sports bar menu, but they do it with style and class.

The Shrimp Bowl is delicious, although I order the chorizo on the side, simply because I think chorizo is a bit of a bully. The dish begins to taste more like chorizo than what else is in the bowl. The grits could be a bit more creamier for my liking, but this bowl is very tasty.

The wings, chili dog, burger do not disappoint. There are endless ways you can order each of these, and we’ve had several that have been wonderful.

The Southwest Chicken Skillet is bountiful enough to share for two people, maybe if you don’t have an over eager appetite. We got an appetizer, and I wasn’t able to finish my skillet with it’s piles of chicken, kale rice, jalapeños, cheese and black beans (and I don’t eat black beans).

This is a great little dive for a friendly lunch or casual date. I’m not sure I’d worry about getting too romantic here, unless sports programs and rock and roll music is your thing, but we love it. … And when my husband and I are alone together, it’s a romantic date no matter where we are!

RCB (Riverstone Corner Bistro)

Location: Canton, Ga

This place is really nice, and the food is amazing! We have eaten here several times, almost every time we’re in the area. The staff is also attentive and friendly.

The pimento cheese appetizer is amazing! Just watch out, because if you eat the whole thing, and there’s only two of you, you might not be able to finish your lunch/dinner! 😂

The shrimp and grits are definitely a winner. Let me just say, Smoke Gouda Grits! Oh my word. So good! We’ve also had the burger, too he grilled chicken and the market fish of the day. Everything is delicious! I’m wondering if they can make anything bad. Seriously.

Now, let’s talk desserts. They have several yummy options, but our favorite is the double brownie. Oh. My. Word! Ooey, gooey chocolate with a scoop of ice cream. Just the way it should be. Delicious!

*Well, after a way-too-long hiatus, Tuesday’s Treats are back. Between Covid, shutdowns and our job becoming a bit busier rather than slower during all of it, I’ve not been writing very much over the last 3 months. So, I’m working back into it, and my good blogging friend, Linda, over at Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy, reminded me how much she enjoyed these; so, here we go! (Btw, she’s got a great blog! Go take a look. I believe you’ll really enjoy it!) 😉

**…and I suppose, since it’s been so long, I couldn’t even keep up with the day this is supposed to be posted! Lol!! I am reposting this on Tuesday; since, I got ahead of myself and posted Tuesday’s Treats on Monday! 🙄🤦‍♀️😅

Tuesday’s Treats #200

Paperlo

Location: Kyiv, Ukraine

This place was has just the neatest decor and atmosphere. The staff is friendly and some can speak a little English. The food is delicious, and again, the decor is just really cool. (Lots of pics on this one; so, get ready!)

The food was phenomenal, and the menu was completely in Ukrainian; so, our friends told us things on the menu and ordered for us. As you can see, we ate like kings.

We started with a cheese plate that was delicious. It had four different types of cheeses and honey and ground coffee to dip. Now, I know, that sounds crazy, but it was SO good! They also had brought a type of dried beef, like beef jerky. It had a little kick of spice, and it was great. Our friend ordered a plate of, what I would call, bruschetta. I’m not sure what it is called there, and I don’t eat raw tomatoes all that much, but she said it was delicious.

My husband (and our oldest) ordered a burger that was about as big as his head! He had to squish it to try to eat it, and he eventually just eat it with a fork and knife. 😂 I ordered a steak and grilled veggies, and it was scrumptious. Our youngest ordered a cheese pizza. It was different, as it didn’t have red sauce on it, but it was very tasty.

We also ordered some drinks like (non-alcoholic) mojitos. One had ginger and lemon and the other was apple. They both were good; I liked the ginger and lemon best.

We had so much food; we were stuffed and couldn’t finish it all! We so enjoyed this food, and we look forward to visiting again when we return to Ukraine.

The Website appears to be in Ukrainian, but I didn’t peruse all through time see if there is a language selection. They also have a FB page.

Here are some more pics of the cool decor.

Tuesday’s Treats #178

131 Main (@Biltmore Village)

Location: Asheville, NC

I’m not sure I can say enough GOOD about this place! Oh. My. Goodness! Everything was absolutely incredible, from the iron skillet cornbread to the fresh catch mahi mahi, from the Caesar salads to the cheeseburger and hickory plank grill salmon to the chef’s special filet medallion. Be assured, all the ingredients are fresh, even the seafood is shipped in fresh every morning from the coast, never frozen. The sides of fries, white cheddar grits and red-skinned potatoes were also delicious.

Yet, we’d have to say the desserts were rightly tied for the most delicious dishes. First, they were huge servings, and second, they were the best homemade brownie and key lime pie we think we’ve ever had (and we’ve been to The Keys)! Honestly, it was totally unexpected. Usually, you get a little slice of key lime and a generic type of brownie, but their desserts are all made in-house, and it shows! ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!

Please note, the menu prices are not incredibly cheap; so, be sure to take your wallet. 😂 It’s so very worth it!!

Tuesday’s Treats #175

Square Root

Location: Brevard, NC

We are here three times during our vacation. The first two times were absolutely amazing…the third time, maybe not so much. The atmosphere is great, but if you want a corner or wall seat, you need to make reservations or arrive early. It gets crazy packed. There is also nice outside seating for both lunch and dinner.

The pretzel barrel app is crazy good! The pretzel is delicious along with the smoked Gouda, Swiss, salami, ham, pimento cheese, and mustard…the fried black eyed peas weren’t quite my taste, but you might like them.

Like I mentioned, we ate here a total of three times. The salmon on cedar plank is so very good. The first time, my husband ordered it as it is on the menu, but the next time, he ordered it with pimento cheese grits. Oh. My. The egg battered fried grouper sandwich, on a pretzel bun, is very tasty. The burgers are amazing, and our son loved the kids pepperoni pizza.

The second time we were here, my husband had his salmon on the grits, and I ordered the chicken marsala, and both were Oh. My. Word. Amazing!!

The third time we ate here, the pretzel board and the pizza was still amazing; however, the grouper sandwich, BLGT (bacon, lettuce and fried green tomato) and rabbit gumbo, maybe not so much. The waitress was kind enough to remove the sandwich charge, and we went next door for chocolates; so, all is good. 😉 oh, and the sides were all tasty: sautéed zucchini, fries, salad, fried zucchini slices.

The desserts were scrumptious; even if the key lime pie didn’t have a stitch of key lime in it! 😂 It actually was an amazing taste of sweetened condensed milk creamy goodness on an Oreo crust. The tuxedo cake was also delicious with it’s three different, creamy chocolate-y goodness.

Tuesday’s Treats #173

Rocky’s Old Fashion Soda Fountain & Grill

Location: Brevard, NC

Oh. My! Oh. My! Oh. My! This place is the “bomb,” as my son used to say! When they say old fashion, they weren’t kidding! The place is totally vintage, and the staff and food are amazing!

We ordered all kinds of burgers and a pimento cheese sandwich with bacon. The burgers were absolutely amazing! You’ve got to try the pimento cheese with bacon, both on the burger, and on the sandwich! The burgers could be a little thicker for some liking, but I thought they were great. The buns taste amazing, and the chips are good. It’s a bit disappointing to get chips with burgers, but we all agreed it was nice to sit in the restaurant and not smell all the grease from fried potatoes.

Ok, now for the desserts. If you like old fashioned milkshakes, root beer floats, brownie sundaes, or anything with ice cream, this is your kind of place!! Between our two visits and ten people, we ordered chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes, hot fudge brownie sundae, strawberry ice cream with sprinkles, vanilla ice cream on a cone and a root beer float. Everything was incredible! The strawberry milkshake and the brownie sundae were probably my favorites. The strawberry milkshake is made with vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries added; the kind that get stuck in your straw with the “just right blended” amount of ice cream. It almost tasted like homemade strawberry ice cream! (The chocolate shake was also made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. If you like it doubles, you can order chocolate on chocolate.) The hot fudge brownie sundae was to die for! Holy Moly! Good God Almighty! 😂 I think I gained 5 lbs just looking at it, and probably another 5 lbs eating it! It was soooo good!!

We will be back there a thousand times over whenever we can! Be sure to check out the D.D. Bullwinkle’s gift shop next door as well, and note, if the line is too long in the restaurant to pay your bill, you can head into the gift shop to pay as well. 😉

*note: this website is the Facebook page. The google search “website” takes you to another great store in town, Bullwinkle’s, but I’m not sure why the misdirection.

Tuesday’s Treats #171

Bourbon Barrel Beef & Ale

Location: Waynesville, NC

This restaurant isn’t big in size, but what they don’t have in size, they definitely have in taste! The large room consists of four booths, the bar seating, a handful of tables and chairs and an open meeting type room with a long section of tables and chairs (put together to form one long).

When we first sat down, we were a bit disappointed, because the last time my husband was here, he ate from the dinner menu, and there was a much bigger list from which to choose. He had told us about sever different entrees he had had, and we were expecting to enjoy some of that fare. So, when the waitress informed us we couldn’t order from the menu until after 5:00, we almost revolted. Lol.

We decided to make the best of it and began our orders. My husband got the Paw’s Old Fashioned Burger. Our son got the chicken fingers and fries. Our friends ordered the 1/2 BBQ Sammy and soup, Paw’s Old Fashioned Burger, and I ordered the BLGT: bacon, lettuce, & fried green tomato sandwich.

Oh. My. Word. Everything was absolutely delicious. The burgers were outstanding. My friend really liked the BBQ pork sandwich. She said the meat was tasty; although, she said she would have liked a little more slaw and sauce on it. She said the beef stew was amazing! The fries are like potato wedges, which I love; so, I stole some from my son. Lol. His chicken was fresh, cut slices (like you’d serve on a salad) with this amazing batter served atop the potato wedges. Yum!

We all decided the BLGT took the prize. It was absolutely amazing! This is not your regular BLT! The Italian panini is paired with a ton of nicely (not too much, but just enough) battered fried green tomato, applewood bacon with lettuce and a black pepper mayo. There must have been four green tomatoes…I had one on each half, ate one and shared one! I had actually asked for the mayo on the side, but they left it on, and honestly, I was skeptical when the plate came, but it was so very good!!

We look forward to being back in the area to eat here again!

Tuesday’s Treats #164

Local Republic

Location: Lawrenceville, Ga

This is a really cool little joint in downtown Lawrenceville. The menu and the atmosphere is urban eclectic and the staff is friendly. It’s a bit of a small restaurant, by they do have an upstairs; so, if you walk in, and it appears packed downstairs, just check upstairs as well.

The pimento cheese bites are an A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. appetizer! It starts with a few crostini, topped with a scoop of pimento cheese, topped with a piece of bacon and a spicy jalapeño and sprinkled with smoked paprika. Wow! (and yes, I said spicy jalapeño, because these are full of seeds and pack a little punch!)

My husband ordered the fresh salmon on pimento cheese grits. Oh. My. He said it was one of the best he’s ever eaten. I ordered the Chicken and Cheese sandwich (much like a chicken philly), and as you can see from the pic, that thing is huge! I got mine with a side of grits as well. Everything was delicious, and almost everything they serve is farm to table fresh! They even have a listing of the local farms they use, as well as a daily special and a highlighted farm partner.

This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back! There are so many more menu items to try! Yum!!

Here is the website for you to find meal choices and location.

Tuesday’s Treats #152

Appalachian Grill

Location: Cartersville, Ga

Well, Merry Christmas! This restaurant review was placed back in October; so, it’s not going to look very “Christmas’y,” but I’d be willing to bet this restaurant will be set up for Christmas! 😉 🎄 This place has a really cool atmosphere, and I loved it when I walked in and said, “Two for a booth, please,” the hostess answered with a smile, “Booths are all we have.”

The ‘Pickles and Pups’ appetizer was huge and quite too much for only myself and my son, but it was definitely tasty. He ordered the kids cheeseburger, and I ordered the shrimp and grits. His burger was delicious, and my shrimp and grits was good, but honestly, I’ve had a little better in the grits department. They weren’t as creamy and rich as I thought oils have liked.

The chocolate cake and apple streusel pie was absolutely amazing. We left full and happy. Check out their website for location and menu options.

*Note to travelers: if you put this into your gps, and Siri tells you, “You have arrived,” but you don’t see the restaurant, don’t panic or turn around. The restaurant is located under the overpass, right near the railroad tracks. There are several restaurants, shops and even a cinema down there; so, you don’t want to miss it. 😉

Merry Christmas to you and yours! We hope you have a beautiful Christmas Day with those you love! 💗🎄
